Job Summary
Icicle River Middle School is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated individual to assist in coaching the boys' basketball team for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will possess a passion for the sport and a commitment to fostering a positive and inclusive team environment. This seasonal position will involve working closely with the head coach to develop players' skills, promote teamwork, and encourage sportsmanship.
Responsibilities
- Assist the head coach in planning and conducting daily practices and training sessions.
- Support the development of players' fundamental basketball skills, including shooting, passing, dribbling, and defensive techniques.
- Help organize and supervise team activities, including games, tournaments, and team meetings.
- Provide constructive feedback and encouragement to players to enhance their performance and confidence.
- Assist in maintaining a safe and positive environment during practices and games.
- Communicate regularly with players, parents, and school staff regarding team schedules, expectations, and player progress.
- Uphold school policies and guidelines related to athletics and sportsmanship.
- Attend all scheduled coaching meetings and contribute to team strategy discussions.
- Assist in the evaluation of player performance and help identify areas for improvement.
Requirements
- Previous experience playing or coaching basketball at a middle school or higher level is preferred.
- Strong understanding of basketball fundamentals and strategies.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire young athletes.
- Ability to work collaboratively with the head coach, players, and school staff.
- Commitment to promoting a positive, inclusive, and respectful team culture.
- Availability for practices, games, and team events throughout the basketball season.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification is a plus but not required.
- Must pass a background check as required by school district policies.
