Description

This is responsible administrative, technical and supervisory work assisting in directing the activities of the office of the City Clerk of the City of St. Petersburg. Work involves assisting the City Clerk, serving as custodian of the corporate City seal and of official City records, books, and minutes of City Council meetings; assisting with municipal elections; acting as City Clerk in the Clerk's absence; the publication of certain official notices and advertisements; and the recording of various papers with State, Federal and county governments. Work includes coordination and verification of supplements to the City Code; participation in the selection, placement, promotion, training, safety, appraisal and discipline of assigned employees; serving citizens in person, via email and on the telephone; operating various computer programs; efficiently and accurately inputting, referencing, retrieving and reporting data and documents using computer equipment; the proficient use of various software applications such as email, Microsoft Word and Digital Court Recorder (audio recording software); and the ability to quickly learn and explain to internal and external customers the policies, controlling charter provisions, ordinances and general law regulations related to the work. An employee in this classification must be a highly proficient proof-reader; must have excellent judgment and problem solving skills, and must be able to interact with co-workers and the public using considerable tact and patience.

Salary: $81,701 - $128,690

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Have a valid Bachelor's degree with major coursework in business or public administration or a related field - or - extensive relevant experience combined with education and training may be considered in lieu of the degree.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Possess an International Institute of Municipal Clerks certification (CMC) - or - upon selection, begin and complete the CMC education and certification program.
  • Have considerable progressively responsible experience performing office and administrative support work, preferably with some supervisory experience and/or in a municipal government environment.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, including speaking in front of the public, City Council and City administration at large meetings.
  • Be able to quickly identify and correct errors in data entry, grammar, and spelling.
  • Be able to maintain accurate, error free records and maintain confidential information.
  • Have excellent interpersonal skills and considerable customer service experience.
  • Be proficient in the use of a computer, including the Microsoft Office suite and email.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have thorough knowledge of the provisions of the City Charter, applicable ordinances, related record keeping laws, and the organization and functions of City government.
  • Have knowledge and experience with public records requests and responses.
