Description

This is professional, technical, and operational work involving the installation, maintenance, operation and ongoing support of the city security surveillance system and data communications networks accessing local and remote City sites with multiple network nodes, paths, and multiple technologies, including security cameras, access control systems, routers, switches, firewalls, and wireless technologies. Work includes but is not limited to the design, installation, maintenance, support, and troubleshooting of security system infrastructure and applications, VOIP systems, wireless access points and antennas, and network systems; the use of network analyzers and computer based network management tools; configuration and maintenance of network firewalls and security appliances; implementation of wide area network operating system upgrades and hardware upgrades; coordination of network hardware and software vendors to develop solutions to user related access and application problems; coordination with third party electrical vendors; participation in establishing internet access paths using TCP/IP routing; assisting with field construction and renovations projects inside and outside buildings and on roofs; and researches, schedules, and installs software upgrades to security systems, network gateways, routers, and switches.

Salary: $63,897 - $101,870

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Have a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Possess a valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) card - or - must be able to obtain the card within six (6) months of appointment to the position.
  • Possess CJIS certification - or - must be able to obtain certification within six (6) months of appointment to the position.
  • Have knowledge of security surveillance systems to include analog and IP cameras, door access control systems, CCTV and surveillance management software.
  • Have knowledge of ethernet cabling and fiber optic systems, layer 2-4 switches, routers, wireless networks, routing, and switching protocols.
  • Ability to utilize network monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
  • Knowledge of wireless communications to include satellite systems, cellular routers and point-to-point antennas.
  • Experience terminating outdoor and indoor ethernet cabling.
  • Be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing.
  • Be able to prepare network diagrams showing logical and topological network configurations including routers, servers and network paths.
  • Be able to organize and integrate information from a variety of sources.
  • Be able to work nights and weekends.
  • Be able to perform work that may require the use of ladders and lift trucks to perform functions in order to access network systems at varying heights inside and out.
  • Be able to work under stressful conditions and persevere on long projects and complicated problem resolutions.
  • Be able to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, outside agencies, vendors, and the public as necessitated by the work.
  • Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, you must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred applicants:

  • Have completed at least two (2) years of college level course work in computer science, network management, programming, or related field, supplemented by formal training at a recognized technical or vendor sponsored training school.
  • Have at least two (2) years' experience in large network management and support to include extensive experience with security surveillance systems, enterprise networks, personal computers, network hardware and software, fiber optic systems and communications devices such as network gateways, wireless communication systems, routers, and switches.
  • Have varied experience in the operation of desktop computers, business applications and related devices, such as Microsoft Office Suite and applicable server-based applications.
  • (CCNA) Cisco Certified Network Associate or equivalent experience is desirable.
