Description

This is responsible, technical, and participatory work supervising staff responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the Southwest Water Reclamation Plant and associated wastewater lift stations. Work requires considerable technical knowledge and independent judgment in operating equipment related to the treatment of wastewater, and the ability to provide lead supervision and training of skilled operators, and semi-skilled and unskilled workers. Work includes the inspection, monitoring and reading recording charts, meters, gauges and computer displays to determine production rates, chemical feed rates, equipment status, chemical analysis and electrical status; and the adjustment to controls to ensure that the treatment is in accordance with standard operating procedures. Work includes planning, scheduling, and utilizing the WACS asset management program to initiate work orders and complete preventative and corrective work orders. An employee in this class performs laboratory analysis of wastewater for quality control; supervises and assigns work; participates in maintaining plant equipment and overall cleanliness of the work area. Due to the critical responsibilities of this class, an employee in this class must be "on call" and report to work at the discretion of management.

Salary: $31.66 - $51.05 Hourly

To Qualify

Minimum Qualifications. Applicants must:

  • Possess a valid high school diploma or GED equivalency.
  • Possess and maintain a valid Driver License.
  • Possess and maintain a State of Florida Wastewater Operator "A" Certificate for wastewater treatment.
  • Have considerable experience in the operation and maintenance of water reclamation facilities and/or wastewater lift stations.
  • Have some supervisory experience.
  • Acknowledge this position is designated as Emergency Critical (EC) and if hired into the position, an applicant must be immediately available to the department before, during, and after a declared emergency and/or disaster.

Desirable Qualifications. Preferred Applicants:

  • Are skilled in the operation of a personal computer.
  • Have thorough knowledge of the operating principles and theories of wastewater treatment.
  • Have knowledge of applicable preventative maintenance practices.
  • Are able to perform a variety of physical duties requiring moderate strength and agility.
  • Are able to organize, supervise and inspect the work of plant operators and others engaged in wastewater treatment operations.
  • Are able to maintain accurate records, prepare clear and concise reports of plant operations, perform involved mathematical calculations, and interpret blueprints, charts and graphs.
