Supported Employment Specialist collaborates closely with the Supported Employment Supervisor to assist clients in obtaining and maintaining competitive, meaningful employment aligned with their individual vocational goals. This role involves developing personalized employment plans and interventions in partnership with the client and a multidisciplinary treatment team. As a community-based position, the Career Coach actively engages with local businesses to educate employers about the program, build strong community relationships, and identify inclusive employment opportunities that support client success.
What is Supported Employment?
Supported Employment (SE) is a recovery-oriented and Evidence-Based Practice (EBP) that helps people with mental illnesses find and keep meaningful jobs in the community. Jobs exist in the open labor market, pay at least minimum wage, and are in work settings that include people who are not disabled.
SE for people with mental illnesses can be referred to as Individual Placement & Support (IPS). "Every person with a serious mental illness is capable of working competitively"(SAMSHA).
