Key Responsibilities

Lab & Office Smart Infrastructure

  • Architect resilient edge-to-cloud IoT solutions for high-demand research lab environments and modern corporate office automation.
  • Design smart infrastructure solutions for mission-critical lab systems, including fume hoods, cleanrooms, specialized HVAC, gas monitoring, and cold storage.
  • Integrate legacy and modern industrial protocols, including BACnet, Modbus, MQTT, OPC UA, LoRaWAN, Lab Execution Systems, and REST APIs.
  • Develop secure, low-latency telemetry and data-integration pipelines.
  • Provide hands-on technical guidance for IoT and smart-building implementations.
  • Perform code and script reviews and establish rigorous validation frameworks for mission-critical deployments.
  • Develop and validate proof-of-concept (PoC) solutions for smart infrastructure and IoT use cases.

Advanced IoT & AI Deployment

  • Evaluate, select, and integrate high-precision IoT sensors, edge devices, and gateways.
  • Deploy IoT solutions for environmental monitoring, occupancy tracking, asset/equipment tracking, sample monitoring, and spatial safety monitoring.
  • Implement AI/ML pipelines using time-series telemetry data.
  • Develop predictive maintenance solutions for mission-critical laboratory utilities and equipment.
  • Implement automated Fault Detection and Diagnostics (FDD).
  • Develop energy load optimization solutions for laboratory and facility environments.
  • Implement real-time environmental anomaly detection and monitoring.

Cross-Functional & Vendor Leadership

  • Collaborate closely with Lab Operations, Environmental Health & Safety (EHS), and Facilities Management teams.
  • Translate scientific and operational requirements into secure, scalable, and reliable technical architectures.
  • Lead technical evaluations, RFPs, vendor selections, and integration efforts.
  • Coordinate with specialized laboratory control vendors, PropTech partners, and system integrators.
  • Partner with Corporate IT teams to implement secure IT/OT architectures.
  • Design zero-trust security architectures and strict network segmentation between laboratory OT environments and corporate IT networks.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable security, safety, and regulatory frameworks.

Core Technical Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical/Systems Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 6+ years of experience designing smart building, IoT, or automation solutions within mission-critical environments.
  • Experience working in R&D laboratories, life sciences, pharmaceutical facilities, cleanrooms, or similar critical environments.
  • Strong hands-on experience with IoT edge gateways and industrial IoT architectures.
  • Experience with time-series data management and high-frequency sensor data ingestion.
  • Experience with industrial protocol converters and IoT data integration.
  • Strong experience integrating IoT devices, sensors, gateways, and enterprise systems.
  • Hands-on experience deploying AI/ML models using time-series telemetry data.
  • Experience implementing predictive analytics, environmental monitoring, equipment optimization, and anomaly detection.
  • Proficiency in one or more programming languages, including Python, C/C++, Node.js, or Go.
  • Strong experience with cloud platforms such as AWS IoT Core, Azure IoT Hub, and Google Cloud.

Specialized Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of laboratory Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) standards.
  • Knowledge of specialized laboratory ventilation requirements, including Air Changes per Hour (ACH) and differential pressure.
  • Understanding of laboratory containment protocols and safety systems.
  • Expert knowledge of OT/IT security convergence.
  • Experience with network isolation and segmentation technologies, including VLANs and the Purdue Model.
  • Strong understanding of Zero Trust security principles for laboratory safety and OT networks.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with scientific researchers, facility engineers, enterprise IT directors, and hardware vendors.
  • Strong technical leadership, communication, problem-solving, and stakeholder-management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Digital Twins for critical facilities and equipment asset management.
  • Experience with Azure Digital Twins.
  • Experience integrating BIM models with digital-twin platforms.
  • Exposure to GxP and GLP environments.
  • Knowledge of scientific data compliance standards.
  • AWS Cloud Architecture certification.
  • Azure Cloud Architecture certification.
  • Certified IoT Professional certification.
  • TOGAF certification.
