Position Title: IOT Security Engineer

Location: Remote (EST Working Hours)

Position Description:

We are seeking an experienced IoT Security Architect / OT Security Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and security of enterprise Internet of Things (IoT) and Operational Technology (OT) environments supporting advanced physical security and surveillance platforms.

In this role, you will partner with cross-functional teams including Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Risk, Audit, Network Engineering, and Operations to secure connected devices, industrial systems, and enterprise surveillance technologies. You will serve as the subject matter expert for Avigilon Unity Cloud and play a key role in developing secure architectures, assessing cyber risks, documenting security designs, and driving technology innovation across IoT ecosystems.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering, or a Lead the security architecture and governance for enterprise IoT and Operational Technology environments.
  • Serve as the technical subject matter expert for enterprise physical security and surveillance platforms, including Avigilon Unity Cloud.
  • Design secure architectures for connected devices, industrial systems, and enterprise IoT solutions.
  • Identify cybersecurity risks across the IoT ecosystem and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Conduct security assessments, threat modeling, vulnerability analysis, and penetration testing for IoT and OT technologies.
  • Design, implement, and maintain secure network segmentation and communication strategies for connected devices.
  • Develop and maintain architecture documentation including system diagrams, trust boundaries, security controls, and data flows.
  • Partner with Cybersecurity, Infrastructure, Risk, Audit, and Engineering teams to ensure regulatory compliance and enterprise security standards.
  • Collaborate with sensor specialists, data engineers, and application teams to securely integrate new devices and data streams into enterprise platforms.
  • Support secure integration between industrial systems, enterprise applications, and cloud technologies.
  • Evaluate emerging IoT technologies and recommend security improvements and best practices.
  • Mentor technical teams on secure IoT development, architecture, and operational security practices.
  • Drive continuous improvements that enhance operational efficiency, resilience, and enterprise cybersecurity posture.

Required Skills/Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Security, Engineering, or a related technical discipline (or equivalent experience).
  • 7+ years of experience in Information Security, Network Security, Physical Security, or Cybersecurity.
  • 5+ years of hands-on experience designing, implementing, or securing IoT and Operational Technology (OT) environments.
  • Strong experience with enterprise surveillance systems, preferably Avigilon Unity Cloud or comparable video management platforms.
  • Experience designing and implementing secure, segmented network architectures for connected devices.
  • Strong understanding of IoT security architecture, scalability, real-time communications, device security, and secure data flows.
  • Experience identifying security risks, performing threat modeling, vulnerability assessments, and recommending mitigation strategies.
  • Experience documenting security architectures, trust boundaries, data flows, and system integrations.
  • Knowledge of networking protocols including TCP/IP, HTTP, UDP, and XML.
  • Experience with IoT security platforms such as Armis, ORDR, Azure IoT, Cisco IoT, or similar technologies.
  • Experience working across Cloud, Hybrid, and On-Premises environments.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to present technical concepts to business leaders and executive stakeholders.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience securing Operational Technology (OT) environments using risk-based security methodologies.
  • Knowledge of industrial communication systems, sensors, controllers, and data acquisition technologies.
  • Experience with PLC, DCS, SCADA, or other Industrial Control Systems (ICS).
  • Experience integrating IoT platforms with enterprise applications and analytics solutions.
  • Familiarity with data streaming, machine learning, and industrial analytics platforms.
  • Experience collaborating with equipment manufacturers, technology vendors, and engineering teams.
  • Industry certifications such as CISSP, GICSP, CCSP, Security+, Azure Security, or equivalent are a plus.
