Overview

An Inventory Control Specialist III oversees the management, accuracy, and optimization of medical supply inventories across hospital facilities. This role ensures appropriate stock levels, minimizes waste, and maintains compliance with regulatory and safety standards. The specialist analyzes usage trends, leads inventory audits, and implements process improvements to support clinical operations. They also collaborate with supply chain, clinical, and vendor partners and supply chain leadership to ensure timely and cost-effective availability of critical supplies.

The Inventory Control Specialist III operates within the hospital supply chain domain, providing oversight and stewardship of inventory systems that support safe, efficient, and uninterrupted patient care. The role contributes to the integrity, visibility, and alignment of inventory resources with clinical demand, ensuring that essential medical supplies are consistently available while balancing cost, utilization, and risk. 

This position serves as a subject matter expert in inventory governance, advancing standardization, accuracy, and accountability across inventory environments. It reinforces organizational priorities related to quality, regulatory compliance, and resource optimization by establishing and sustaining consistent inventory control frameworks. Through a systems-level perspective, the role connects supply chain strategy with clinical operations, supporting continuity of care and operational resilience. 

The Inventory Control Specialist III also plays a key role in shaping inventory-related decision-making by maintaining a strong focus on data integrity, trend awareness, and performance outcomes. It supports the organization’s ability to adapt to evolving demands by promoting scalable, sustainable inventory practices that align with broader financial, operational, and patient care objectives.

Education

Certification/Licensure

  • No specific certification or licensure requirements

Experience

  • 2 years of related experience is required

  • Basic Excel proficiency, including working with existing pivot tables (refreshing, filtering, adjusting fields).

  • Familiarity with Power Query (Preferred)

  • Ability to follow documented steps to refresh and validate reports

  • Critical thinking, analytical thinking.

  • 3 years Purchasing/Buyer experience preferred.

  • Supply Chain Healthcare experience highly desired.
