SCOPE OF POSITION: Interventional Radiology Technologist is responsible for providing patient services using invasive cardiovascular technology under the direction of a physician, leading to the diagnosis and treatment of congenital and acquired organ and vascular disease. Responsible for performing routine to complex diagnostic and therapeutic technical procedures at a level that does not require constant supervision of technical detail. Interventional Radiology Technologist assists in the performance of a variety of procedures requiring independent judgment, good knowledge of anatomy, and high technical knowledge of equipment. The technologist has a constant awareness of infection control standards, the importance of sterility and an acute awareness of patient care protocols RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares examination room, sets up sterile trays and proper equipment maintaining aseptic conditions and sterile techniques. Operates all special diagnostic equipment inclusive of devices for the vascular surgeon. Prepares patients including explanation of procedures, site specific marking. Maintain adequate supplies for procedures. Schedules patient exams in conjunction with Central Scheduling. Knowledge of radiographic positioning to achieve the best demonstration of vessels being evaluated. Completes general, unit, department specifics, competencies including age specific competencies and dysrhythmia course. Takes emergency on-call. Assists Senior Interventional Technologist in the management of interventional area. Maintains accreditation status with ACR. Assists in the orientation and instruction of students and new personnel in IR techniques. Responsible for recycling, hazardous waste disposal, drug waste disposal, and universal precautions. Responsible for adhering to all radiation protection standards and for donning all radiation protection apparel inclusive of wearing and changing of current monitoring devices. Performs other related duties as required. Knowledge of Interventional Procedures, treatments, and tests. Operating knowledge of all interventional radiologic ultrasound equipment. Operates HIS, RIS, and PACS system in patient procedures. Communicates appropriately using good interpersonal skills. Positive professional demeanor is projected through verbal and non-verbal communications. Bilingual capabilities in English and Spanish are desirable, but not required. Knowledge of blood borne pathogen and universal precautions. Able to maintain patient confidentiality. Ability to lift and pull patients, push stretchers, and able to stand and walk. Transport patients when necessary. Knowledge of radiation protection and cardiac rhythm interpretation. Perform automated functions that fall within job responsibility. REQUIREMENTS: Must be a high school graduate. American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) National Board certified. Vascular-Interventional (VI) Radiography Certification by the ARRT preferred. Maintain a valid State of Connecticut License to practice Radiographic technical procedures. On an on-going basis the incumbent must obtain the mandatory number of continued educational units (CEUs) needed to maintain the currency of state licensure. Must be BLS Certified. .
