This is a professional work in leading the team responsible for They are responsible for engaging with guests at the various interactive animal program sites including the Giraffe, Parrot and the Tortoise and Rhino Encounters. Also, provides exemplary guest service experiences to all zoo guests through guest engagement opportunities such as behind-the-scenes tours and public presentations.

Responsibilities/duties include, but are not limited to:
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t
Leads, plans, assigns and reviews the work of subordinate Interpretive Program Attendants; schedule work assignments and revise work schedules as needed.
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t
Leads animal care and maintenance at Australian Aviary as well as other related public areas. Ensures animal health and safety, staff safety, and public safety through standard operating procedures for animal care as set forth by AZA, USDA, and Zoo Miami at all assigned encounters.
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t
Serves as the primary trainer in conducting employee training for new or existing Interpretive Programs staff; makes recommendations regarding hiring, discipline, and promotion of subordinates; evaluate and rate employee performance; assists in the scheduling of daily work routines of subordinate Interpretive Programs employees.
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t
Leads team participation in special events, animal encounters and educational presentations through entertaining venues onsite and outreach programming.
\t\t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t\t
Performs the following at the Australian Aviary: daily inspections to check for changes in behavior, diet, sickness, reproductive status, etc.; removes harmful foreign objects; cleans, scrubs, and applies any necessary sterilizing agents; performs scientific observations such as recording weights, measuring fecal output, and other measures for evaluation purposes; may assist in the performance of specialized animal care, including baby and immature animal care; participates in the rendering of medical care as directed by a professional veterinary superior; assists in administering medication; assists in capturing, crating and transporting animals; coordinates, prepares and observes animal introductions as directed.

Assists with animal handling for use in shows or presentations; prepares daily written and electronic reports to supervisor on any changes in behavior, diet, sickness, reproductive status, etc.; prepares diets and feeds at animal exhibits as directed by the Zoo Nutritionist; inspects prepared animal food for correct portions and proper balance of ingredients and additives; ensures food preparation area is clean, disinfected and properly sanitized as set forth by AZA, USDA, and Zoo Miami.

May serve as the enrichment liaison; maintains animal behaviors under the direction of management/WEB as needed in order to complete necessary job functions; writes, reviews, approves and presents for approval animal enrichment plans

Writes for approval, directs and delivers fun, interactive guest engagement through feeding and encounter facilitation, Zoo Mascot appearances and/or impromptu interactions on the public walkway; research and assist in the development of new interactive programs; assist guests by providing information on facility attractions and activities.

May serve as the internship/volunteer mentor; assist in the coordination of special projects and work to be performed in their zone, such as research and educational projects;

Experience Required
\t\t\t\t\t
High school diploma or GED. Two years of customer service or tourism related experience is required. Must possess excellent communication skills. Must be able to work days, nights, weekends and holidays on a varying schedule. Must possess a valid driver license.
