Interoperability Engineer

The ideal candidate will serve as a technical leader across multiple integration workstreams, developing scalable interface solutions, improving system reliability, and partnering with business and clinical stakeholders to refine workflows. We are seeking a Senior HL7 / Healthcare Interoperability Engineer to lead the design, development, testing, deployment, and optimization of critical healthcare interfaces across a complex healthcare technology landscape.

Role Summary

We are seeking a Senior HL7 / Healthcare Interoperability Engineer to lead the design, development, testing, deployment, and optimization of critical healthcare interfaces across a complex healthcare technology landscape. This role will have a direct impact on ensuring seamless interoperability between clinical, imaging, and revenue cycle platforms while supporting large scale implementations and operational excellence.

This position requires a strong blend of healthcare interoperability expertise, software engineering skills, and the ability to thrive in an evolving environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, test, deploy, and support HL7 and healthcare interoperability interfaces across multiple enterprise systems

• Build and maintain integrations between RIS, PACS, dictation platforms, revenue cycle applications, and downstream vendor systems

• Develop transformation logic, routing rules, and message workflows using interface engines and programming languages

• Lead interface troubleshooting, monitoring, error resolution, and production support activities

• Partner directly with clinical, operational, and technical stakeholders to gather requirements and define integration workflows

• Support radiology reading groups and teleradiology integrations including order and result routing

• Create and maintain interface documentation, technical specifications, and support procedures

• Manage multiple concurrent integration initiatives and contribute to implementation planning, stabilization, and optimization efforts

Key Requirements

• 7+ years of experience designing and supporting HL7 healthcare interfaces in complex healthcare environments

• Hands on experience integrating RIS, PACS, dictation, and revenue cycle systems, which is the most critical qualification for this role

• Strong expertise with Mirth Connect or comparable interface engines such as Cloverleaf, Rhapsody, Iguana, or InterSystems

• Experience working with HL7 v2 message types including ADT, ORM, ORU, SIU, DFT, MFN, and REF

• Familiarity with DICOM and Modality Worklist workflows within imaging environments

• Strong software development experience with JavaScript, Python, Java, SQL, REST APIs, and source control best practices including branching and version management

• Experience deploying and supporting cloud hosted integrations in AWS environments; equivalent cloud platform expertise including Azure or Google Cloud will also be considered

• Knowledge of infrastructure as code, automation, and cloud native deployment methodologies

• Experience working within HIPAA regulated environments and handling protected health information in compliance with security and privacy requirements

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work directly with business and clinical stakeholders to define requirements

• Ability to manage multiple vendor relationships and concurrent workstreams while maintaining strong documentation standards

Nice to Have

• Radiology or medical imaging industry experience

• Experience with AbbaDox, Candid, Merge PACS, VNA, or PowerScribe One

• AWS services experience including Fargate, networking, and security groups

• Azure DevOps experience

• Experience supporting healthcare interoperability solutions within large scale implementation environments

• Requirements and workflows are evolving alongside active delivery efforts, requiring a proactive and adaptable approach

• Candidates must be comfortable interviewing stakeholders to identify business processes, inputs, outputs, and workflow triggers

• Strong self documentation and communication skills are essential due to multiple concurrent vendor facing projects

• Must be able to successfully complete healthcare compliance and background screening requirements

• Fully remote within the United States

• Initial 6 month contract with potential for extension
