You will work at the intersection of trusts and estates, international tax, and multigenerational wealth planning, helping clients protect assets, navigate competing legal jurisdictions, and achieve their legacy goals. Bring your technical depth, sound judgment, and client-first approach to a role offering challenging matters and meaningful client relationships.
Responsibilities
* Develop and implement international and cross-border estate plans for high-net-worth and ultra-high-net-worth individuals and families.
* Advise clients on estate, gift, and generation-skipping transfer tax matters, including planning involving U.S. and non-U.S. persons, assets, and beneficiaries.
* Draft and review wills, revocable and irrevocable trusts, and related estate planning documents tailored to domestic and international objectives.
* Counsel clients on the U.S. tax implications of foreign trusts, foreign assets, residency changes, and inbound or outbound wealth transfers.
* Manage trust administration and estate administration matters, coordinating with fiduciaries, beneficiaries, accountants, investment advisors, and foreign counsel.
* Oversee trust and estate tax compliance, including the preparation or review of applicable estate, gift, fiduciary income tax, and international information reporting filings.
* Evaluate tax planning strategies that support wealth preservation, succession planning, charitable giving, and efficient intergenerational transfers.
* Provide responsive private client services while maintaining discretion and building trusted relationships with clients and their advisors.
* Research complex legal and tax issues, monitor relevant developments, and translate technical conclusions into practical recommendations.
* Collaborate with colleagues across practice areas and support the development of junior attorneys and other team members.
Qualifications
* Juris Doctor or equivalent qualifying law degree and active bar membership in good standing in an applicable jurisdiction.
* At least 5 years of relevant trusts and estates experience, with substantial exposure to international estate planning or cross-border estate planning.
* Demonstrated experience in trust administration, estate administration, estate and gift tax, and tax planning.
* Strong working knowledge of international tax issues affecting private clients, including U.S. and non-U.S. individuals, trusts, and beneficiaries.
* Experience delivering private client services and high-net-worth client services with professionalism, discretion, and attention to detail.
* Proficiency in trust and estate tax compliance, including relevant tax returns and international reporting requirements.
* Excellent legal drafting, research, analytical, and communication skills, with the ability to explain sophisticated concepts clearly.
* Ability to manage complex matters independently, coordinate multidisciplinary advisors, and meet competing deadlines.
* Strong relationship-building skills and a commitment to exceptional client service.
* An LL.M. in Taxation or comparable advanced tax training is a plus. Equivalent experience demonstrating the required technical skills will also be considered.
