About the Internship


This intern will report to the Project Planning & Development Manager in the Office of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (ODEI). Expanding opportunities for small, minority, and women-owned business enterprises (M/WBEs) is a critical part of the Port Authority’s inclusionary contracting practices. The Project Planning & Development team supports the early phases of those contracting practices and is one of the four units that report to the Assistant Director of Business Diversity/Compliance Management. This intern will gain an understanding of the agency’s contracting and solicitation process, along with how small businesses are included along the way.


Responsibilities


+ Conduct outreach to and surveys for firms regarding upcoming contracts

+ Prepare list of firms, managing contract datasets, and drafting participation memos

+ Track construction projects, analyze contract details to identify opportunities for participation, and prepare briefing materials for the Chief Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Officer

+ Draft process and procedure document documents and assist in the implementation of process improvements

+ Prepare presentation materials and presenting key topics at ODEI briefings

+ Perform data analytics and database management

+ Assist with special projects and assignments as needed


Minimum Qualifications


+ Enrollment at a college or university at the time of the internship

+ Major in urban planning, public policy, engineering, business administration, political science, or related discipline

+ Interest in working in the public sector and contributing to the success of the New York/New Jersey region

+ Excellent communication, research, and presentation skills

+ Working knowledge of Microsoft Suite (SharePoint, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)


Desired Qualifications


+ Ability to multi-task and complete projects with attention to detail

+ Ability to work independently on complex assignments and to work in a fast-paced team environment on multi-disciplinary projects

+ Knowledge of Business-to-Government (B2G) Now software


Internship Details


+ The start date is expected to be in September 2026

+ This internship will require 36.25 hours/week

+ In accordance with Port Authority policy, this position permits interns to work remotely a maximum of one day per week. In person collaboration is essential to how the Port Authority conducts business and regular in-office days or team collaboration days may be required depending on business needs. Some internships may require interns to be fully in-person.

Compensation & Benefits


+ The hourly rate range is $18.61 to $31.22 (the exact rate will be determined by internship type and rising school year)
