    The successful candidate selected for this position will be expected to perform technical design and graphics work as part of the ITAS Graphics Team on the IMOC III contract supporting the Flight Operations Directorate (FOD). The position is located at Johnson Space Center in Houston. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:

    • Perform technical design work for high-level, high-visibility projects. Responsible for interfacing with customers, developing, and implementing and/or coordinating full-cycle production plans for both print and electronic media.
    • Coordinate and design visual concepts for special projects. Assume a coordinating role for large projects requiring multiple discipline levels. Offer creative design solutions and provide comps and technical sketches manually or electronically and finished artwork for a variety of media
    • Provide technical illustrations for Flight Operations Directorate (FOD) documentation and products
    • Interface with customers, publications staff, and other contributing personnel to coordinate production needs and gather requirements
    • Perform a full spectrum of complexities for design and illustration tasks utilizing graphic computer platforms, software applications, related peripheral equipment and traditional board equipment
    • Communicate project progress and customer issues with management through as needed and through scheduled meetings and weekly reports
    • Perform mandatory quality and product assurance checks
    • Interface with department personnel to ensure clear communication is established and maintained for all phases of project support
    • Provide Photography for FOD portraits
    • Maintain proficiency in document publishing systems, processes, and desktop applications to support electronic drawings and graphics support

    OTHER DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

    • Cut mattes and display boards using a matte cutting machine, saw, and art knives
    • Work with large and small laminator equipment
    • Handle and manipulate graphic art objects up to 20 pounds.
    • Hang and mount products in conference rooms, halls, or other designated areas
    • Provide fabrication support/development within limits to pooled ITAS services
    • Write/maintain updated work/training instructions for graphic processes and products
    • Review own work and the work of others as needed for accuracy and compliance with quality and standards
    • Provide design concepts for Web pages
    • Update Graphics Request Portal as required to track work
    • Safely perform all tasks and provide communication of all activities, planned and completed.
    • Complete training activity required for assigned job duties and complete assigned administrative tasks. Submit weekly Activity Reports and participate in ITAS department staff meetings. Incorporate safety into daily work by participating in safety activities and maintaining a safe working environment. Review Total Safety Task Instructions (TSTIs) on equipment used in the graphics lab

    Education: Bachelor's Degree in related graphics field, or related art or media design degree

    Experience: Must have experience in graphics design/technical drawings and illustrations. Graphic products fabrication experience is required. NASA experience is preferred. Experience in PowerPoint, Canvas, Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, and Acrobat, Adobe Creative Cloud, and MS Visio is preferred.
