    LOCATION: Huntsville, AL, Redstone Arsenal

    Astrion has an exciting opportunity for an Intermediate Engineer supporting the Missile Defense Agency’s Director of Test (DT) Target Test Directorate at the Von Braun Complex on the Redstone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. Astrion is at the forefront of new missile defense technologies and supports the MDA’s rigorous operational and developmental testing.     REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS

     

    • Bachelor of Science degree in a STEM field
    • 7 years of recent relevant experience
    • Eligibility to obtain and maintain at least a Secret security clearance
    • Experience working in a fast paced, professional environment with the ability to adjust/react to short notice requirements changes, deadlines, changing schedules, competing priorities, and unpredictable events

     

    HIGHLY DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS / SKILLS 

     

    • In depth knowledge of MDA test planning, processes and execution
    • Experience in LOS UHF/VHF Radio, UHF SATCOM (DAMA/IW) communication systems
    • Experience in COMSEC, encryption and secure voice and data operations
    • Experience in developing standardized plans, processes, and checklists
    • Working knowledge in missile telemetry and flight termination systems
    • Self-motivated; possess strong oral and written communication skills, and have ability to work effectively in a dynamic team environment
    • Proficient with Windows-based PC software (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, MS Teams)
    • Ability to acquire a Class III FAA flight certification is also desired

     

    RESPONSIBILITIES

     

    The ideal candidate will provide engineering and technical support to MDA staff engineers for MDA ground launched and air launched target systems. The candidate will support target flight activities at various launch locations and forward staging areas.

     

    Duties will include:

     

    • Develop, implement and conduct communications support operations for MDA target missile operations
    • Submit Satellite Access Requests, perform Spectrum Manager Duties and develop COMSEC Management Plans
    • Support Air Launch Target tactical communications cell (radio, SATCOM, telemetry and flight termination test equipment) deployment, installation and activation
    • Install and verify operation of MDA Roll on Communications Systems (ROCS) on C-17 launch extraction aircraft enabling in-route countdown progression
    • Perform forward staging area pre-flight launch countdown operations verifying air launch target and supporting range safety and communications systems are ready to support launch operations
    • Provide and relay communications support to senior MDA leadership at the FSA during terminal countdown operations
    • Potentially fly in an unpressurized environment on the C-17 as a backup flyer to Government personnel, to relay MDA mission critical information to/from C-17 and ground launch crew utilizing Roll-on Communications System (ROCS) via UHF and satellite paths during C-17 flight operations – would require Class III FAA flight certification
