Description
Interim Inventory Accounting Manager
Our client, a consumer products company, is seeking an Interim Inventory Accounting Manager to strengthen its inventory and cost accounting capabilities during a period of growth and systems transformation.
This role is on-site five days per week in the San Francisco East Bay. This role has an anticipated duration of approximately 12 months.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee accounting for raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods inventory in accordance with U.S. GAAP
- Manage inventory valuation, standard costing, cost of goods sold reporting, reserves, and related journal entries
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and year-end inventory close activities, including reconciliations and roll-forwards
- Analyze purchase price, production, waste, yield, and obsolescence variances and communicate actionable findings
- Partner with Supply Chain, Operations, Procurement, and FP&A to align financial reporting with inventory movement and operational activity
- Provide visibility into cost drivers, margin impacts, inventory risks, and opportunities for improvement
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and scenario analysis related to inventory levels and cost structures
- Develop scalable accounting processes, controls, workflows, and reporting practices
- Support ERP transformation activities involving inventory and cost accounting processes
- Prepare audit schedules, respond to information requests, and maintain supporting documentation
- Provide guidance and accountability across inventory accounting activities as needed
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 2 years focused on inventory or cost accounting
- Strong inventory and cost accounting experience within consumer products, manufacturing, or another inventory-intensive environment
- Deep understanding of standard costing, inventory valuation, reserves, cost of goods sold, inventory flows, and related close activities
- Advanced ERP, Excel, and data-analysis capabilities, with experience supporting audits, process improvements, and U.S. GAAP compliance
