Location: West Central Texas
Employment Type: Interim / Consulting Assignment
Duration: Approximately 3 6 months
Pay Rate: Approximately $125/hour, subject to final engagement structure
Work Arrangement: Onsite Monday Thursday; approved temporary housing and travel expenses reimbursed

Position Overview
A public-sector organization in Texas is seeking an experienced Interim Director of Information Technology to provide executive leadership and operational continuity during a period of technology transformation.

This individual will lead enterprise technology operations while helping the organization strengthen service delivery, accountability, governance, cybersecurity, infrastructure, applications, and overall technology operations. The Interim Director will work closely with executive leadership, department leaders, technical teams, consultants, and service providers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide executive leadership and accountability for enterprise IT operations and services.
  • Maintain continuity and reliability of critical technology services across a complex 24/7 operating environment.
  • Establish clear service ownership, accountability, performance expectations, escalation procedures, documentation, and backup coverage.
  • Assess organizational capabilities, staffing needs, service gaps, and operational priorities.
  • Coach and develop technology staff while utilizing vendors, consultants, and managed service providers as appropriate.
  • Strengthen IT service management practices across incidents, requests, problems, changes, service levels, knowledge management, assets, and continual improvement.
  • Partner with executive and departmental leadership to communicate technology risks, priorities, resource requirements, investments, and service performance.
  • Strengthen technology governance, project prioritization, architecture, cybersecurity, change management, and reporting processes.
  • Maintain and advance technology roadmaps and project portfolios while balancing operational demands, technical debt, cybersecurity, lifecycle requirements, and available resources.
  • Provide oversight across enterprise applications, data, integrations, automation, infrastructure, cloud platforms, networks, identity, endpoints, and workplace technology.
  • Support mission-critical and regulated technology environments, including public safety, emergency communications, operational technology, and other essential services.
  • Oversee cybersecurity, technology risk, incident response, resilience, recovery, and applicable compliance requirements.
  • Manage technology vendors, contracts, managed services, licensing, renewals, service levels, and deliverables.
  • Oversee technology budgets, investments, staffing requirements, and lifecycle planning.
  • Advance an established technology transformation roadmap and prepare the organization for a successful transition to permanent leadership.
Qualifications
  • Significant leadership experience within enterprise information technology.
  • Experience leading professional and technical teams, technology operations, budgets, vendors, and complex services.
  • Demonstrated success stabilizing technology operations and leading organizational or technology transformation.
  • Strong understanding of cybersecurity, resilience, infrastructure/cloud services, enterprise applications, data, service management, governance, enterprise architecture, and vendor management.
  • Experience supporting regulated, mission-critical, public safety, critical infrastructure, utility, government, or comparable 24/7 environments.
  • Experience with CJIS or comparable security and compliance environments is highly desirable.
  • Strong executive communication, decision-making, staff development, relationship management, financial management, and change leadership skills.
  • Bachelor's degree in a related discipline preferred; equivalent executive technology experience may be considered.
  • ITIL, PMP, CGCIO, CISSP, CISM, CRISC, COBIT, or similar certifications are desirable.
