Cherry Bekaert Recruiting & Staffing is partnering with a respected higher education institution in Louisville, Kentucky, to identify an experienced Interim Controller for a critical leadership engagement. This is an excellent opportunity for a hands-on accounting leader who can quickly assess operations, ensure financial stability, and support the institution through a transitional period.
The ideal candidate will bring strong technical accounting expertise, proven leadership experience, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities
- Lead and oversee all day-to-day accounting and finance operations
- Manage the month-end and year-end close processes
- Ensure accuracy of the general ledger, reconciliations, and financial reporting
- Prepare and review monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Maintain and strengthen internal controls and accounting procedures
- Support budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow management activities
- Partner with executive leadership to provide financial insight and strategic guidance
- Coordinate external audits and assist with audit preparation
- Lead, mentor, and support accounting staff
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and operational efficiencies
- Ensure compliance with GAAP, institutional policies, and regulatory requirements
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
- Previous Controller or Assistant Controller experience required
- Strong knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting
- Experience leading accounting teams and managing financial operations
- Ability to quickly evaluate processes and implement improvements
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
- Higher education, nonprofit, or public sector experience is highly preferred
- CPA designation is a plus
