I&C Project Engineer

Contract to Hire

Summary

The I&C Project Engineer supports the execution of Instrumentation & Controls (I&C) engineering activities across multiple projects by developing, coordinating, and maintaining engineering deliverables. This role works closely with Lead Project Engineers, Technical Leadership, Production Engineering, Designers, Procurement, and Project Management to ensure accurate, high-quality deliverables are completed on schedule and meet client requirements, industry standards, and project objectives.

Responsibilities

Project Engineering

  • Support execution of I&C engineering scope across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Coordinate engineering activities to meet project schedules and priorities.
  • Support resolution of engineering and design issues during project execution.
  • Participate in project meetings and provide engineering support throughout all project phases.

Engineering Deliverables

  • Develop and maintain:
    • Instrument Indexes
    • I/O Lists
    • Instrument Datasheets
    • Specifications
    • Instrument and Control Requisition Packages
    • Vendor Data Documentation
  • Assist with development and review of:
    • Control Narratives
    • Cause & Effect Matrices
    • Control System Documentation
  • Ensure all engineering deliverables are accurate, complete, and consistent with project requirements.

Coordination & Procurement

  • Coordinate with engineering, design, procurement, and project management teams.
  • Support technical bid evaluations and vendor clarification reviews.
  • Review vendor drawings, submittals, and technical documentation.
  • Respond to engineering clarification requests and support issue resolution.

Project Execution

  • Track engineering progress and maintain deliverable status.
  • Ensure consistency between engineering documentation and project requirements.
  • Support implementation of engineering standards, workflows, and document control processes.
  • Assist with multiple projects while maintaining quality and schedule commitments.

Required

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Instrumentation Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.

Experience & Skills

  • 5–10 years of Instrumentation & Controls engineering experience in EPC, refining, petrochemical, industrial, or related environments.
  • Experience supporting EPC, industrial, or refinery projects with I&C engineering deliverables.
  • Proficient in developing Instrument Indexes, I/O Lists, Instrument Datasheets, Specifications, and Requisition Packages.
  • Familiarity with control system documentation, including DCS, PLC, SIS, control narratives, cause & effect matrices, and I/O systems.
  • Experience supporting procurement activities, including technical bid evaluations, vendor documentation, and drawing reviews.
  • Knowledge of applicable industry standards, including ISA, IEC, NEC, API, and NFPA.
  • Experience working in a production-driven engineering environment and coordinating with cross-functional or remote engineering teams.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and priorities.
  • Detail-oriented with a commitment to delivering accurate, high-quality engineering documentation on schedule.

  • Maintains consistency between Instrument Indexes, I/O Lists, Datasheets, and project documentation.
  • Coordinates effectively with engineering, design, procurement, and project teams to minimize rework.
  • Produces high-quality engineering documentation requiring minimal revision.
  • Successfully manages multiple projects while maintaining quality, efficiency, and client expectations.
