Position Description:

Seneca Resources is seeking an experienced Instrumentation & Controls Engineer to support the design, development, and implementation of advanced automation and control systems for complex manufacturing and process facilities.

This role offers the opportunity to work on sophisticated industrial control systems, instrumentation, PLC-based automation, SCADA, safety systems, and facility controls within high-tech environments, including semiconductor manufacturing and other advanced industrial facilities.

The ideal candidate brings strong engineering design experience, excellent communication skills, and the ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams. Experience with semiconductor facilities, cleanroom environments, BIM/CAD platforms, and professional engineering licensure is highly valued.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support proposals, project budgets, schedules, and engineering deliverables for process-specific projects.

  • Design and engineer facility control systems, fire alarm systems, chemical control systems, Toxic Gas Monitoring (TGM), SCADA, and industrial automation systems.

  • Develop and review P&IDs, loop drawings, control schematics, wiring diagrams, and instrumentation documentation.

  • Perform sizing and selection of instrumentation, control devices, valves, and related equipment.

  • Prepare detailed instrumentation and equipment data sheets.

  • Design and support PLC-based control systems, including Allen-Bradley, Schneider Modicon, and Siemens platforms.

  • Review vendor submittals, equipment documentation, and engineering deliverables for compliance with project requirements, applicable codes, and industry standards.

  • Develop Sequence of Operations (SOO) documentation and control narratives.

  • Support the integration of industrial networks, motor controls, power distribution, and cybersecurity requirements into control system designs.

  • Participate in technical reviews, client presentations, project meetings, and business development activities.

  • Collaborate with electrical, mechanical, process, architectural, construction, and other engineering disciplines.

  • Provide technical leadership and contribute to engineering design efforts throughout the project lifecycle.

Required Skills/Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline from an ABET-accredited university.

  • Engineer in Training (EIT) certification.

  • 6+ years of experience in industrial controls, instrumentation, automation, or control systems engineering and design.

  • Strong experience with industrial control systems (ICS), PLCs, automation, instrumentation, and SCADA.

  • Hands-on experience designing PLC-based control systems, preferably with:

  • Allen-Bradley

  • Schneider Modicon

  • Siemens

  • Working knowledge of industrial networks, cybersecurity, motor controls, and power distribution systems.

  • Understanding of applicable national codes and standards, including NFPA 70 and UL 508A.

  • Experience developing P&IDs, loop diagrams, wiring diagrams, control schematics, instrumentation data sheets, and Sequence of Operations.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

  • Excellent organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary and global engineering teams.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license or ability to obtain a PE license in the State of Virginia.

  • 2+ years of semiconductor manufacturing experience, including semiconductor equipment design, installation, commissioning, or cleanroom environments.

  • Experience with BIM and CAD tools, including:

  • Revit

  • AutoCAD

  • Navisworks

  • Experience with Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.

  • Experience with project scheduling, engineering delivery, and project management tools.

  • Previous experience leading engineering teams or managing engineering design efforts.

  • Industrial controls or facility design experience in:

  • Semiconductor manufacturing

  • Pharmaceutical manufacturing

  • Data centers

  • Advanced manufacturing

  • Process facilities

  • High-tech industrial environments

  • Strong understanding of buildings, construction, facility infrastructure, and engineered systems.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive innovation, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.

Additional Details:

  • Preference will be given to candidates local to Virginia.

  • Relocation assistance and/or mileage and expense reimbursement may be available for highly qualified candidates.

  • Approximately 10% travel may be required.

  • Field work may involve walking long distances, climbing ladders, and working in active construction or industrial environments.

  • Candidates must successfully complete a background check and drug screening.

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States. Sponsorship is not available.

Top Three Skills:

  • PE License or ability to obtain professional engineering licensure in Virginia.

  • 2+ years of semiconductor manufacturing experience, including equipment design, installation, commissioning, or cleanroom environments.

  • Experience with BIM/CAD platforms, particularly Revit, AutoCAD, and Navisworks.
