    Job Summary:

    The Instrumentation Tech III will be responsible for providing on-site customer and operations support to internal BDB San Diego customers. This includes, but is not limited to, installation, qualification/ validation, calibration, maintenance, and repair service of diagnostic and general laboratory equipment and instruments. This position may at times require after-hours, holiday and weekend support depending on business needs.

    Job Responsibilities Include: (Primary Duties, Roles, and/or Authorities)

    • Installing and servicing instrumentation with minimum direct supervision, as requested, by the internal customer base in accordance with current ISO (International Organization for Standardization) standards.

    • Maintaining Documentation in accordance with cGDP (Current Good Documentation Practices) requirements and standards.

    • Completing service documentation, as required, by the position function or requested by Instrumentation Management and in accordance with current cGDP requirements.

    • Displaying maturity and judgment in time management, customer communication and control of work schedule.

    • Reporting quality and other technical problems, in detail, to the Instrumentation management and all parties needing to be aware of this information.

    • Completing all administrative documentation required by the position in a timely manner.

    • Actively supporting areas of empowerment and continuously improving team processes to create a more efficient work environment.

    • Performing calibration, maintenance and repair activities for all laboratory equipment located at the BDB San Diego Site as needed.

    Education and Experience:

    EDUCATION:

    • High School Diploma/GED is required.

    • The ideal candidate would be a have US Military TMDE/PMEL or Instrumentation experience

    • Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Electronics/Computers/Biomedical Engineering is desired.

    EXPERIENCE:

    • Minimum 7 years of recent related work experience in servicing laboratory equipment and plant instrumentation; experience troubleshooting of complex electronics is required.

    • Minimum of 5 years direct experience with ISO 9001:2008, 10012, 17025 or 13485 required.

    • Experience with medical devices and equipment, PCs/software/LIS/networking/database management knowledge is highly desirable.

    • PC-based equipment and application software knowledge is highly desirable.

    • Desirable experience: Knowledge of Refrigeration Equipment Calibration, Maintenance, Repair, and Troubleshooting.

    Knowledge and Skills:

    • Requires a good working knowledge of electronics and electro-mechanical devices.

    • Must have effective communication and customer service skills including technical writing and training.

    • Must have effective interpersonal skills, organization/prioritization, and administrative skills.

    • Must possess a valid driver's license and good driving record.

    • Must have ability to effectively manage multiple tasks, changes in priorities, and time sensitive projects.

    • Must have ability to effectively perform component level trouble shooting, and analysis.

    • Must be customer service focused. Must possess and be able to demonstrate above average understanding of Calibration Principles, Calibration terminology, Loop Checking, Troubleshooting, Start-up, Maintenance, and repair activities.

    • Must be able to use electronic Test Equipment and be able to read schematics. Computer and data skills are required.

    • Priority Setting: Able to spend his/her time and the time of others doing what's important to the business. Quickly able to identify the critical few and will work with management to re-prioritize the less critical. Will quickly sense what will help or hinder accomplishing department goals eliminating roadblocks and creating focus.

    • Technical learning: Able to pick up on technical things quickly. Will learn new skills and knowledge. Good at learning new industry, company products or technical knowledge.

    Physical Demands: (if applicable)

    • Must be able to lift to 30 lbs. frequently and up to 70lbs infrequently.

    • Must be able to handle bending and stooping over a prolong period (up to 10 hours).

    • Must be able to handle prolong standing (up to 10 hours per day).

    • Must be able to push/pull materials up to 100 lbs.

    • Noise: Occasionally works in noisy conditions.
