    Instrument Technician

    Setting/Hours: 100% In-Office | 4/5 10's First Shift

    Join trak group in partnering with a growing client in Cincinnati, Ohio that’s expanding its Manufacturing team. 
    Position Summary
    We are seeking an experienced Instrument Technician to inspect, troubleshoot, calibrate, repair, and maintain instrumentation and control systems within an industrial manufacturing environment. This hands-on role is critical to maintaining plant reliability, process control, safety, and equipment uptime.

    The ideal candidate has strong experience with industrial instrumentation, control valves, transmitters, PLCs, DCS systems, and process control equipment and can independently diagnose complex instrumentation and controls issues.
    Key Responsibilities Instrumentation & Controls Maintenance

    • Inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain industrial instrumentation and control systems.

    • Diagnose problems involving control valves, sensors, transmitters, PLCs, DCS systems, and final control elements.

    • Remove, repair, and replace defective instrumentation and control components.

    • Calibrate instruments and control devices according to manufacturer specifications and plant standards.

    • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on instrumentation and control equipment.

    • Support instrumentation associated with flow, pressure, temperature, level, and chemical composition measurement and control.
    Troubleshooting & Testing

    • Review equipment manuals, circuit diagrams, blueprints, P&IDs, and technical documentation to determine appropriate testing and repair procedures.

    • Utilize pneumatic, electrical, and electronic testing equipment to diagnose equipment problems.

    • Troubleshoot process control issues and identify root causes of equipment or instrumentation failures.

    • Verify proper operation of repaired or calibrated equipment before returning systems to service.

    • Partner with Operations and Engineering to troubleshoot process-related problems and implement effective solutions.
    Installation & Reliability

    • Install instrumentation and control devices on new and existing production equipment.

    • Support equipment modifications, upgrades, startups, and improvement projects.

    • Identify recurring equipment issues and recommend improvements to increase reliability.

    • Participate in plant reliability, uptime, and continuous improvement initiatives.

    • Support efforts to reduce equipment failures and unplanned downtime.
    Documentation & CMMS

    • Complete preventive maintenance documentation, calibration records, and service reports.

    • Maintain accurate equipment and maintenance history within the CMMS.

    • Document troubleshooting findings, repairs, replacements, and calibration results.

    • Maintain accurate records in accordance with plant procedures and applicable quality and safety requirements.
    Qualifications

    • Previous experience as an Instrumentation Technician, I&C Technician, Controls Technician, or similar industrial maintenance professional.

    • Strong knowledge of industrial instrumentation used to measure and control flow, pressure, temperature, level, and chemical composition.

    • Hands-on experience troubleshooting and repairing industrial control systems.

    • Experience with PLCs, DCS systems, transmitters, sensors, control valves, and final control elements.

    • Experience calibrating industrial instruments and control devices.

    • Working knowledge of pneumatic, electrical, and electronic systems.

    • Ability to use electrical and instrumentation testing and diagnostic equipment.

    • Ability to read and interpret P&IDs, circuit diagrams, blueprints, equipment manuals, and technical specifications.

    • Strong analytical, troubleshooting, and problem-solving skills.

    • Excellent documentation and communication abilities.

    • Experience maintaining equipment history and work records within a CMMS.
    Preferred Qualifications

    • Experience within a chemical plant, process manufacturing, or similar industrial environment.

    • Experience supporting process control systems in a continuous production operation.

    • Knowledge of industrial preventive and predictive maintenance practices.

    • Experience supporting equipment startups, upgrades, and reliability improvement projects.
    Ideal Candidate Profile
    The ideal candidate is a hands-on instrumentation troubleshooter who understands both the instrument itself and its role within the larger process. This individual can move from a P&ID or control diagram to the equipment in the field, diagnose the problem, calibrate or repair the device, and verify that the system is operating correctly.

    Success in this role requires strong technical judgment, attention to detail, disciplined documentation, and a commitment to plant safety, reliability, and uptime.
