Responsibilities
- Decontaminate, clean, inspect, and prepare surgical instruments and equipment following manufacturer guidelines and infection prevention standards.
- Operate washer/disinfectors and other decontamination equipment to ensure safe, effective instrument processing.
- Accurately assemble instrument trays using count sheets and tray content lists.
- Inspect instruments for cleanliness and functionality, removing damaged items and coordinating repairs as needed.
- Perform sterilization and high-level disinfection using steam, vaporized hydrogen peroxide, and other approved methods.
- Configure, test, monitor, and maintain sterilization equipment to ensure optimal performance and regulatory compliance.
- Maintain organized, sterile storage and work areas that support safe handling and distribution of supplies.
- Deliver processed instruments and supplies to designated storage locations for timely clinical use.
- Complete detailed documentation throughout the reprocessing cycle to ensure traceability, quality assurance, and compliance.
- Support continuous improvement initiatives and stay current on sterilization, infection prevention, and industry best practices.
Qualifications
Education:
- High School Diploma or equivalent required.
Experience:
- At least one (1) year of sterile processing experience is preferred.
License(s)/Certification(s):
- IL & IA Child Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required within 90 days of hire.
- IL & IA Adult Dependent Abuse Mandatory Reporter Training in state(s) where providing care required within 90 days of hire.
