The College of Business at Black Hills State University invites applications for an Instructor of Operations Management/Business Analytics position. The position begins fall 2026 and is a one-year term position with the possibility of renewal.

Black Hills State University is a teaching-focused institution located in Spearfish, South Dakota, in the scenic Black Hills region. The College of Business is accredited by AACSB International - a distinction held by fewer than 6% of business schools worldwide - and serves approximately 400 students across campuses in Spearfish, Rapid City, and online. The college offers undergraduate programs in Business Administration with specializations including accounting, agribusiness/ranch management, business analytics, economics, finance, entrepreneurial studies, health services administration, human resource management, management, and marketing, as well as an MBA.

The successful candidate will join a collaborative, student-centered faculty committed to teaching excellence, applied scholarship, and community engagement. Effective communication, collaboration, and enthusiasm for student mentorship are central to our culture.

DUTIES AND EXPECTATIONS:

  • Teach courses at the undergraduate and MBA level such as Production/Operations Management, Project Management, Business Statistics, Business Statistics II, Quantitative Decision Analysis, and Business Analytics.
  • The expected teaching load is five courses per semester (5-5). Opportunities for summer teaching may also be available.
  • Maintain professional engagement and currency consistent with AACSB accreditation standards for Instructor faculty (e.g., continuing education, professional certifications, and/or research consistent with achieving and maintaining SA, PA, SP, or IP status)
  • Participate in student advising, recruitment, and retention activities.
  • Participate in service activities at the college and university levels.
  • Teach face-to-face in Spearfish and Rapid City and online.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master's degree in Operations Research/Management Science, Business Analytics, Statistics, Economics, or a closely related discipline. Candidates with an MBA and substantial relevant professional experience will also be considered.
  • Candidates must meet AACSB Initial Qualification standards (SA, PA, SP, or IP) at the time of hire, consistent with the College of Business's faculty qualification standards.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Ph.D. or DBA in one of the disciplines above.
  • Evidence of quality teaching (evaluation scores, teaching awards, course design/development).
  • Professional experience in productions/operations management, data analytics, information systems, or related applied work.

COMMENTS:

This is a one-year term contract with the possibility of renewal. Sponsorship is not available for this position.
