    Summary

    The Michael E. DeBakey Department of Surgery is seeking a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner to provide care for Plastic Surgery patients under physician supervision. This role supports the supervising physician in evaluating patients, assessing clinical needs, developing treatment plans, and independently managing postoperative follow-up visits.

    Job Duties

    • Serve as a surgical first assist, demonstrating the manual dexterity required for effective surgical support. 10%
    • Use surgical instruments and techniques, including scalpel, electrocautery, sterile technique, and adherence to operating room policies and procedures. 10%
    • Obtain detailed patient histories and perform physical examinations for perioperative care of plastic surgery patients. 10%
    • Order, perform, and interpret diagnostic studies, including x-rays, electrocardiograms, laboratory tests, and other appropriate procedures. 5%
    • Develop assessments and care plans, including ordering and interpreting appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic tests in coordination with the supervising faculty physician. 10%
    • Perform therapeutic procedures such as injections, immunizations, suturing, and wound care. 10%
    • Educate patients on prescribed treatment plans, home care instructions, and health maintenance. 10%
    • Maintain required clinical records and document patient status, treatments, and procedures in progress notes. 10%
    • Provide follow-up and health maintenance care consistent with physician-established protocols. 10%
    • Provide guidance and support to PA and NP students assigned to the service. 10%
    • Perform other duties as assigned. 5%

    Minimum Qualifications

    • Master''s degree from an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program.
    • Current licensure as a Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner in the State of Texas.
    • No prior experience required.
