  • Life Insurance: The coverage amount is based on two and one-half times appointment salary rounded up to the next whole thousand with a maximum coverage of $100,000 and includes the same amount of Accidental Death and Dismemberment benefits. The University currently pays the entire cost of coverage.
  • Medical, Dental and Prescription Drug Coverage: The cost of coverage is shared between employees and the University. Rates are determined by participation in Wellness Program and use of tobacco products. Coverage is available on the first of the month following appointment date.
  • TIAA Retirement Contributions: Contributions begin based upon the first day of employment at a contribution rate of ten (10) percent of base appointment salary paid in full by ISU. The contributions are vested immediately. There are 40 investment options from which to choose.
  • TIAA Auto Enroll: New employees are automatically enrolled in a tax deferred retirement program at hire: three (3) percent is deducted before taxes for the program to facilitate retirement planning. Employees may opt out of the program within 90 days.
  • Long Term Disability Coverage: Employees are eligible after three (3) years of continuous, regular employment with the University. This policy guarantees approved disabled employees a 66 2/3 percent income protection (from all sources) after 180 days of continuous total disability. Immediate participation is available for current members of a comparable group disability insurance program within 90 days prior to ISU employment and that would have provided income protection upon disability for at least five years.
  • Fee Waiver Program: For the employee, spouse and dependent children: Staff may enroll in up to 18 hours of course work each academic year at a reduced rate. Spouses may enroll in 15 semester hours each academic year with 80% of qualified tuition waived. Dependent children of regular full-time staff who are full-time degree seeking undergraduate students at ISU may receive a fee waiver of 80% of qualified tuition for up to a total of ten (10) semesters. Consult your department for any limitations or restrictions.
  • Sick Leave: Accrues at a rate of 12 days per academic year with unlimited accumulation.
  • Pay Options: Faculty on academic year appointments have the option of receiving their salary paid in 10 payments (September 1 through June 1) or 12 payments (September 1 through August 1) each year.

Job Summary/Basic Function

Reporting to the Chair of the Department, this position will teach and provide service to the Department, College, and University as assigned. In addition to delivering instruction in courses such as AVT 140 Private Pilot Ground Training, AVT 317 Technically Advanced Aircraft, AVT 413 Advanced Transport Category A/C, AVT 415 ATP Ground, AVT 417 ATP Flight, AVT 441 Flight Instructor Ground Training, the faculty member will also engage in curriculum development, participate actively in departmental and college-level meetings, and contribute to program assessment and accreditation activities. Responsibilities extend to serving on university committees, collaborating on initiatives that promote academic excellence, and supporting the broader mission of the institution through service and outreach. This role requires maintaining open communication with the department leadership, adhering to institutional policies, and seeking continuous professional development to enhance both teaching and service commitments.

Specific Responsibilities

Teaching responsibilities:

  • Prepare and update syllabi, lesson plans, and instructional materials tailored to AVT 140 Private Pilot Ground Training, AVT 317 Technically Advanced Aircraft, AVT 413 Advanced Transport Category A/C, AVT 415 ATP Ground, AVT 417 ATP Flight, AVT 441 Flight Instructor Ground Training.
  • Deliver engaging lectures and facilitate classroom discussions to promote understanding of core aviation concepts and operational procedures.
  • Design and supervise laboratory exercises or flight simulation activities, providing students with practical, hands-on experience relevant to each course.
  • Develop, administer, and grade assignments, quizzes, exams, and projects to assess students' progress and mastery of course objectives.
  • Offer individualized guidance and academic support to students, including office hours, study sessions, and mentorship on course-related topics and careers in aviation.
  • Stay current with advancements in aviation education and update course content to reflect new industry standards and technologies.
  • Maintain records of student attendance, participation, and performance according to department and university policies.
  • Collaborate with colleagues on curriculum development, participate in departmental meetings, and contribute to program assessment and accreditation efforts.
  • Uphold all safety, regulatory, and ethical standards in both classroom and practical settings.

Required Relevant Education & Experience

Master's degree in Aviation, Public Administration, Management or Business by the start date of employment (August 2026).

Aviation-related career experience.

At least one degree in an aviation-related discipline.

Management experience in the aviation field.
