Description

The Purpose

The purpose is to provide quality instruction for all students enrolled in their assigned classes in compliance with Blue Ridge Community Colleges "Open Door" policy. The ultimate goal is to meet the occupational and general educational needs of the students. Classes may include curriculum, continuing education, workforce training, or other courses, and may be scheduled during the day, evening, or weekend.

Examples of Duties

Instruction and Classroom Management

  • Areas of instruction specifically include engineering, robotic integration, process control, systems development, hydraulics & pneumatics, electricity/electronics, computer-integrated machining, and welding.
  • Assist with instruction in the curriculum programs of mechatronics, electronics, computer-integrated machining, and welding.
  • Prepare adequately for all classes assigned, and conduct all classes in a professional manner.
  • Classroom management with regard to providing an orderly, clean, safe working environment according to OSHA and EPA standards, while ensuring that all related equipment is maintained within budget constraints.

Curriculum Planning and Support

  • Review of program course material for both corporate and customized training and curriculum. Revision/update course content as necessary.
  • Schedule courses with the approval of the area Dean to ensure students can progress through the program in an orderly and timely sequence.
  • Mentor adjunct faculty as appropriate by sharing information, advice, and materials.
  • Develop and carry out student testing program in all classes taught that meets College policy and standards.
  • Maintain accurate records and reports and submit these in a timely manner to the appropriate person.

Student Engagement

  • Advise and register students while demonstrating genuine interest for the general welfare of all students.
  • Promote and implement program recruitment and retention strategies.
  • Provide necessary support for and referrals to the College's educational support programs and functions.

Professionalism and Partnerships

  • Maintain a professional attitude toward teaching and professional relationships.
  • Partner with local manufacturers and area industries for a better understanding of their applicable needs, then transfer those needs into the program/course development

Competencies and Other Expectations

  • Establish and maintain the necessary industry-recognized instructor/program certifications and accreditations, such as Allen-Bradley, ABB Robotics, pneumatic and hydraulic systems, etc.
  • Ensure compliance and confidentiality with all policies and procedures of the College, NC Community College System, and applicable State and Federal agencies

Additionally

  • Responsibilities encompass all classes assigned, committees assigned, or other activities agreed upon between faculty members and administration.
  • Prepare budget requests to fund supplies and equipment needed for the coursework.
  • Investigate distance learning delivery for course materials and offer distance learning options wherever practical.
  • Perform other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications

Education: Required: Associate degree in Engineering, or a closely related field. Preferred: Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Mechatronics, Electrical Engineering, a closely related field, or a Master's degree with 18 graduate semester hours in one of the above areas.

Experience: Industry experience (preferably 5+ years) in engineering, electronics/process control, automation, or closely related areas. Previous college teaching experience would be very helpful.

Skills and the Know-How

The faculty member will possess strong personal and professional integrity, good verbal and written communication skills, and a commitment to safety. Demonstrated proficiency using Microsoft Office Suite or similar products, database systems, College email and website, and other computer applications associated with the position.

The faculty member must be able to effectively and successfully communicate their "industry perspective" of robotics, controls, systems development and how it integrates with machinery and mechanics.

Physical Demands

The ability to perform all duties associated with the position including, but not limited to lifting, prolonged standing, sitting, bending, stooping, and operating or performing work with associated tools and machines.
