SUMMARY
The Instructor in Vocational Nursing provides classroom and clinical instruction in the field of Nursing at South Plains College. This is a 12-month, tenure-track position.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Those requirements outlined in the South Plains College Faculty Handbook and the nursing department handbook for instructors.
QUALIFICATIONS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be competent in the principles and practices of vocational nursing and be able to integrate them into the art of teaching, both in the classroom and clinical setting. The individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
Qualifications
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Required: Current licensure to practice as a Registered Nurse in the state of Texas. Must have a minimum of 5 years recent experience in teaching and/or the clinical setting. Show evidence of teaching abilities and maintaining current knowledge, clinical expertise, and safety in the subject area of teaching responsibility.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret health information, professional journals, technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers and the general public.
REASONING ABILITY and MENTAL ABILITIES
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of situations, and interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral or schedule form. Need to be able to handle and remain calm in stressful situations at times.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand. The employee is occasionally required to walk, sit, use hand to finger, handle, or feel, and reach with hands and arms. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds, frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Need to be able to walk and stand for long periods of time sometimes in lab and clinical settings.
SPECIAL DEMANDS: Ability to work under pressure and conditions of frequent interruptions, securing cooperation of other faculty, staff, administration and clinical affiliates. Must be capable of making frequent independent decisions.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to risk of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
