Carteret Community College is seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic part-time English as a Second Language (ESL) instructor to join our College & Career Readiness (CCR) team. The ESL instructor will provide high-quality English language instruction to adult learners from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds. The instructor will help students develop practical English skills that support everyday communication, employment, career advancement, education, and community participation.

Duties include:

• Plan and deliver engaging ESL instruction for adult learners at varying levels of English proficiency.
• Develop lessons that strengthen speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
• Use appropriate instructional strategies and materials aligned with North Carolina Adult Education standards.
• Create a welcoming, respectful, and supportive learning environment.
• Assess student progress and provide constructive feedback.
• Incorporate real-world and workforce-related English into classroom instruction when appropriate.
• Maintain accurate attendance and student records.
• Participate in required professional development, staff meetings, and program activities.
• Collaborate with the ESL Coordinator to support student success
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution.

Knowledge & Skills:

(Required):

• Experience working with adult learners, English language learners, or diverse populations.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Commitment to supporting students from diverse cultural and educational backgrounds.

(Preferred):

• ESL or TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages), or related certification.
• Teaching experience in an adult education or community college setting.
• Experience incorporating workforce or career-focused English into instruction.
• Knowledge of North Carolina Adult Education programs and standards.
• Proficiency in MS Office (Word & Excel).
• Great organizational and communication skills.
• Excellent classroom management

Work Conditions & Environment:

Work is performed in classroom, campus, community, and other instructional settings. Occasional travel to off-campus sites may be required. The position requires mobility within instructional environments and, when appropriate, accompanying students during community-based instruction, career exploration, and work-based learning activities.

Schedule: Part-time; class schedule to be determined based on program needs.
