    Elementary Mathematics Instructional Coach

    POSITION SUMMARY:

    CREC seeks a talented elementary mathematics instructional coach that will serve three schools, Ana Grace Academy of the Arts, Reggio Magnet School of the Arts, and the Academy of International Studies Elementary School.     The elementary mathematics coach will work under the general supervision of the supervisor of mathematics and the school principals performing the essential performance responsibilities listed below.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

    • Support and maintain the districts curriculum, instruction, and assessment in K-5 Mathematics.
    • Collaborate with the other math instructional coaches.
    • Oversees the training and implementation of district curriculum and materials.
    • Other duties as assigned.

    COMPETENCIES:

    • Facilitate adult cognitive shifts through structured coaching.
    • Demonstrate self-awareness and emotional intelligence to remain adaptable, patient, and resilient when navigating adult resistance to instructional change.

    Interpersonal Competencies:

    • Establish trusting, non-evaluative relationships with teachers, creating psychological safety for adult learners to take risks and refine their practice.
    • Employ active listening and precise questioning to guide collaborative problem-solving and facilitate non-judgmental coaching conversations.

    Cognitive Competencies:

    • Deconstruct and interpret diverse student mathematical thinking and misconceptions to help teachers anticipate strategies and facilitate meaningful mathematical discourse.
    • Analyze multiple streams of formative and summative math data to identify systemic instructional trends, drive collaborative inquiry cycles, and make evidence-informed adjustments.

    Instructional Competencies:

    • Model high-leverage, standards-aligned math instruction, demonstrating effective task launch, questioning techniques, and student-centered consolidation.
    • Plan and lead targeted co-teaching, peer observations, and real-time coaching interventions to scaffold teachers implementation of new pedagogical practices.

    QUALIFICATIONS:

    • Bachelors Degree from four-year college or university in an education discipline applicable to assignment.
    • Teaching certification: Elementary, 1-6 (305 or 005) or Elementary, K-6 (013).
    • Masters in math education and intermediate administration certification (092) preferred but not required
    • A minimum of 7 years prior teaching experience at the elementary school level with a strong preference for individuals with teaching experience at various elementary school grades.
    • Experience and skill as a mathematics coach or mentor
    • A proven record of instructional leadership with extensive knowledge of best practices
    • Successful experience in the development and monitoring of curriculum and instructional programs
    • Knowledge of the Common Core State Standards, Smarter Balanced Assessment
    • Ability to plan, develop, implement and evaluate curriculum and instructional materials
