    Job Title: Instructional Assistant

    Exemption Status: Nonexempt/At-Will

    Reports to: Principal and Teacher(s) Assigned

    Pay Grade: D1

    Calendar Days: 202

    Dept./School: McCollum High School

    Primary Purpose:

    Provide a wide range of training and support duties to facilitate the effective function and growth of the Career Center and its services to students, staff and parents at McCollum High School.

    Qualifications:

    Education/Certification:

    High school diploma or hold a General Educational Development (GED) certificate

    Have met formal academic assessment, associate's degree, or two years of study at an institution of higher learning*

    Valid Texas educational aide certificate

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    Ability to assist in instructing reading, writing, and mathematics

    Ability to work well with children

    Ability to communicate effectively

    Knowledge of basic computer operations

    Strong oral and written communication skills

    Ability to operate basic office and classroom equipment

    Ability to work well with others in a training/mentoring capacity

    Experience:

    Some experience working with children

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    Instructional Support

    1. Communicates regularly with classroom teachers, staff and parents about information available in the Career Center.

    2. Assists counselors in ordering, implementing and upgrading hardware, software, and resource materials.

    3. Assists counselors in promoting use and planning growth of the Career Center.

    4. Assists counselors in training teachers and students to effectively use resources in the Career Center.

    5. Plans summer training sessions for students and parents.

    6. Assists counselors in identifying materials that support AEIS indicators when purchasing and implementing materials.

    7. Help maintain neat and orderly facility.

    8. Help with inventory, care, and maintenance of equipment.

    Other

    1. Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance.

    2. Participate in faculty meeting and special events as assigned.

    3. Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.

    4. Performs other job-related duties as may be assigned by the campus principal or designee.

    Supervisory Responsibilities:

    None

    Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:

    Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including computer and peripherals; standard instructional equipment

    Posture: Moderate standing; occasional kneeling, squatting, bending, and stooping

    Motion: Moderate walking

    Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)

    Environment: Work inside and outside (exposure to sun, heat, cold, and inclement weather); exposure to noise

    Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
