Are you passionate about helping children learn, grow, and succeed? Phoenix Elementary School District #1 is looking for caring, dependable Instructional Assistants to join our team! In this role, you will work alongside classroom teachers to create a safe, supportive, and engaging learning environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive.
Position Summary
The Instructional Assistant works as an important member of the classroom team, supporting teachers with instruction, student supervision, classroom activities, and individualized or small-group learning. This position provides hands-on support that helps students build confidence, strengthen academic skills, and succeed in the classroom.
Essential Responsibilities
- Support the teacher with daily classroom instruction, activities, and organization.
- Provide individualized and small-group instruction to reinforce skills and concepts taught by the teacher.
- Facilitate learning games and activities that support student learning and engagement.
- Assist with the preparation and organization of instructional materials and classroom resources.
- Supervise, guide, and support students in the classroom and other assigned areas.
- Help maintain a safe, positive, and welcoming environment that is conducive to learning.
- Respond calmly and effectively to unexpected situations and challenges that may arise when working with groups of children.
- Assist with student meals, snacks, and other daily routines as needed.
- Effectively utilize district technology and participate in required training.
- Attend workshops and professional development activities as directed.
- Maintain regular attendance and comply with applicable state laws, District policies, and regulations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
- Supervise children in the classroom and other assigned areas.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Associate degree or equivalent of two years of college (60 semester hours), OR passing results on the ParaPro or WorkKeys assessment.
- High school diploma or GED required.
- Spanish bilingual proficiency preferred.
- Previous experience working with children preferred.
- Must possess a valid Level One IVP Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a classroom team and communicate positively with students, families, teachers, and staff.
- Ability to maintain a safe, supportive, and respectful learning environment for all students.
- Ability to use district technology and learn new systems and procedures as required.
