    Primary Purpose

    The primary purpose is to supervise students assigned to In-School Suspension (ISS) for disciplinary reasons, maintaining a highly structured and orderly environment. Work under general supervision of the principal and under the direct supervision of a certified teacher on a daily basis.

    Qualifications

    Education/Experience

    High School diploma or equivalent

    Highly Qualified status under No Child Left Behind (48+ college credit, Associates degree or higher, or an approved state/local academic assessment)

    Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.

    Ability to work well with children

    Special Knowledge/Skills:

    Education Aide Certificate is required, but may be applied for once employed.

    Proficient interpersonal and computer skills

    Major Responsibilities and Duties:

    • Work with certified teacher and campus administrators to create and maintain an orderly and highly structured classroom environment.
    • Assist individual students to complete assignments given by classroom teacher, maintaining integrity of assignments.
    • Consult classroom teachers regarding student assignments.
    • Distribute, collect, and check student assignments for accuracy.
    • Maintain individual files of completed student assignments and return to classroom teachers.
    • Manage student behavior and administer discipline according to board policies, administrative regulations, and Individual Education Plans (IEP).
    • Record student attendance and discipline referrals using personal computer and assist in maintaining student discipline records.
    • Supervise students assigned to ISS during lunch and restroom breaks.
    • Participate in meetings and training sessions as designed by District staff.
    • Assist in campus duty assignments as required.
    • Maintain confidentiality.
    • Regular and consistent attendance.
    • All other duties as assigned.

    Working Conditions

    Mental/Physical/Environmental Demands:

    Maintain emotional control under stress; Moderate standing, stooping, bending, and lifting.
