Instructional Aide/Bus Aide â Special Education Self-Contained Classroom
Location: Classroom is located on SJHS side of the building; however, it serves students at SSHS and SJHS.
Job Summary
The Instructional Aide/Bus Aide â Special Education Self-Contained Classroom will provide instructional, behavioral, personal, and supervisory support to students with disabilities in a self-contained special education setting. The employee will work under the direction of the classroom teacher and building administrator to assist students in accessing instruction, participating in school activities, and achieving goals identified in their Individualized Education Programs (IEPs).
The employee will also serve as a Bus Aide, providing supervision and assistance to students during transportation to and from school and other authorized school activities.

7:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m.
Salary: Based on BCS Service Salary Schedule
Schedule may be adjusted as necessary to meet student transportation and instructional needs.

Qualifications
The successful applicant must:
- Meet all qualifications and requirements established by West Virginia law, West Virginia Department of Education regulations, and Boone County Schools for the applicable aide classification.
- Hold or obtain any required certification, training, or testing for the position.
- Demonstrate the ability to work effectively with students with disabilities.
- Demonstrate patience, dependability, professionalism, and appropriate interpersonal skills.
- Be physically capable of assisting students with mobility, positioning, personal care, and other needs when required, with or without reasonable accommodation.
- Maintain student confidentiality and comply with all applicable special education requirements.
- Successfully complete required background checks, training, and other employment requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The Instructional Aide/Bus Aide will:
- Assist the special education teacher with implementation of instructional activities and student IEP goals.
- Provide individual and small-group instructional support under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher.
- Assist students with academic, behavioral, communication, social, functional, and daily living skills.
- Support students in participating in classroom activities, related arts, lunch, transitions, assemblies, and other school activities.
- Assist with implementation of behavior intervention plans and positive behavior-support strategies.
- Monitor students closely and maintain a safe, structured, and supportive learning environment.
- Assist students with mobility, positioning, feeding, toileting, hygiene, dressing, or other personal-care needs when required by the student's educational program.
- Assist with adaptive equipment, assistive technology, and other student supports as directed.
- Collect and maintain student data as directed by the classroom teacher or other professional staff.
- Prepare instructional materials, classroom resources, and equipment.
- Assist in maintaining an organized and safe classroom environment.
- Provide supervision during arrival, dismissal, hallway transitions, meals, recess, and other assigned activities.
- Follow all student IEPs, behavior plans, health plans, safety plans, and other required student-specific procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding student records, disabilities, behaviors, medical needs, and other protected information.
- Participate in required training and professional development.
Bus Aide Responsibilities
The employee will:
- Ride assigned school transportation routes as required.
- Assist students in safely boarding and exiting the school bus.
- Assist with wheelchairs, mobility devices, safety restraints, harnesses, seat belts, or other specialized equipment when required and properly trained.
- Monitor student behavior and safety while the bus is in operation.
- Assist students with disabilities or other special needs during transportation.
- Follow transportation procedures, student transportation plans, and emergency protocols.
- Communicate transportation-related concerns to the bus operator, building administrator, teacher, or appropriate supervisor.
- Maintain appropriate student confidentiality during transportation.
- Assist during emergency situations in accordance with training and established procedures.
Additional Responsibilities
- Work cooperatively with teachers, administrators, therapists, nurses, transportation staff, parents, and other school personnel.
- Follow the directions of the supervising teacher and building administrator.
- Maintain regular and punctual attendance.
- Comply with Boone County Schools policies, procedures, and employee expectations.
- Perform other duties related to the assignment as directed by the Building Principal, Superintendent, or designee.
