Inspector III

Job Summary

The role involves using predetermined methods, operations, setups, and prescribed specifications to visually inspect in-process and completed products. These include electronic units and subsystems, precision electromechanical assemblies, or mechanical units, subassemblies, structural flaws, internal defects, and missing welds. The inspector utilizes various measuring devices to accept, reject, or rework defective or malfunctioning units or systems. Work is performed from blueprints, diagrams, dial indicators, preset micrometers, scales, fixtures, customer specifications, drawings, inspection instructions, and checklists. The role may also involve monitoring and verifying quality in accordance with statistical process or other control procedures.

Responsibilities

• Provide direction and perform inspections in the process inspection area under limited supervision.
• Receive some instruction on routine work and general instructions on new assignments.
• Use professional concepts to solve a variety of problems.
• Work on assignments that are semi-routine in nature, using judgment to resolve problems and make routine recommendations.
• Follow standard practices and procedures in analyzing situations or data from which answers can be readily obtained.
• Interact daily with supervisors, peer groups, and customers, exchanging or presenting factual information.
• May serve in a lead role and train others.

Qualifications

• High school education or equivalent.
• 4 years of related experience.
• Some knowledge and experience in handling unusual job events.
• Ability to choose actions requiring more than common sense, with some training and experience needed for special circumstances.

Impact

Decisions or failure to achieve results may cause delays in schedules.

Freedom to Act

Normally receives some instruction on routine work and general instruction on new assignments.
