The Office of the Sheriff is seeking one (1) Inmate Industries Engraving Program Supervisor to join the team at the West County Detention Facility.

This unique, non-sworn position offers the opportunity to make a meaningful impact within the Sheriff-Coroner's Office at the West County Detention Facility. Reporting to the Sheriff's Director of Support Services, the selected candidate will lead and oversee daily vocational training programs for inmates, helping participants build valuable skills and prepare for future success.

The role coordinates hands-on training in areas such as digital design, text and graphic production, sublimation, vinyl application, and computer-based plotting. It also oversees engraving projects using laser and rotary equipment while ensuring safe and efficient shop operations. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who enjoys teaching technical skills, leading a program, and contributing to rehabilitation and reentry efforts in our community.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Demonstrate proficiency in design and production software
  • Instruct and support individuals in custody
  • Be highly self-motivated with strong time- and workload-management skills

What you will typically be responsible for:

  • Developing design files for engraving a variety of products such as plaques, pens awards, etc.
  • Providing instruction to individuals in custody on design tools and engraving material
  • Maintaining clear communication with customers regarding orders and project requirements
  • Completing invoices and billing for all orders received

Minimum Qualifications

License Required: Candidates must possess and maintain throughout the duration of employment a valid California Motor Vehicle Operators License. Out of State valid Motor Vehicle Operators License will be accepted during the application process.

Education: Completion of 60 semester or 90 quarter units from an accredited college or university.

Experience: Four (4) years of full-time (or the equivalent of full-time) experience working with design software or engraving materials, responsibility for budget management, production processes, quality control, and utilization of computerized graphic software. One year of which must have included supervisory responsibilities.

Background: Ability to pass a thorough background investigation, including a polygraph, conducted by the Contra Costa County Office of the Sheriff.

Desirable Qualifications:

  • Ability to supervise, train, and guide the daily work of individuals in custody
  • Skilled in operating equipment such as printers, thermal printers, and vinyl plotters
  • Capable of developing new ideas, services, or program improvements
  • Experienced in planning, designing, and coordinating projects from concept through completion
