JOB SUMMARY
The Inlet Builder is responsible for constructing, installing, and repairing concrete stormwater structures, including drop inlets, catch basins, manholes, and junction boxes. This role requires the ability to read blueprints, operate equipment, set forms, pour and finish concrete, and ensure that drainage structures are constructed in accordance with city, state, and project specifications.
Responsibilities:
- Structure Construction & Assembly: Build, form, pour, and finish concrete catch basins, drop inlets, and manholes according to engineering specifications.
- Formwork & Reinforcement Setup: Measure, cut, assemble, and set up wood or metal concrete forms; install reinforcing rebar or wire mesh as required by project details.
- Grade Control & Elevation: Utilize basic surveying equipment, lasers, engineer's rules, and tape measures to accurately shoot elevations and set correct structural grades.
- Pipe Integration & Sealing: Cleanly seal and grout drainage pipe connections entering or exiting concrete structures.
- Field Maintenance & Repair: Diagnose structure defects, patch existing concrete components, and perform emergency field remediation on damaged drainage systems under varying weather conditions.
- Safety & Site Compliance: Enforce safety compliance by adhering strictly to OSHA standards regarding trench safety, excavation shoring, confined spaces, and heavy equipment hazards.
Physical Requirements
- Physical Demands: Ability to lift 50–75 lbs, work in confined spaces or open trenches, and endure strenuous physical labor in outdoor construction environments.
Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 2+ years of heavy civil or highway construction experience, with a strong preference for specific experience in concrete form setting, finishing, or utility pipe laying.
- Technical Skills & Literacy: Proficiency in reading blueprints, grading plans, and structural schematics.
- Core Knowledge: Strong understanding of concrete mixes, surveying techniques, and stormwater drainage standards.
Work Environment
Work is performed primarily outdoors on active construction sites with exposure to varying weather conditions, uneven terrain, moving equipment, and other construction-related hazards. Employees must wear required personal protective equipment (PPE) and comply with all safety requirements.
