Infrastructure Engineer

Introduction

Employees in this role are responsible for building and operating IT hardware and software resources across on-prem, cloud, or hybrid scenarios to support internal customer needs. The position involves a variety of activities that operationalize cross-functional teams, such as capacity planning and resource optimization for both short-term and long-term workloads.

Day-to-Day Responsibilities

• Design, operation, and maintenance of enterprise servers, including specialty mainframe systems and hybrid/cloud systems
• Research, design, implement, and maintain complex infrastructure solutions
• Design and configure secure virtualized environments
• Utilize existing tools or assist in engineering custom monitoring solutions
• Monitor and review resources like CPU, memory, storage, and network traffic
• Resolve bottlenecks and plan for future capacity needs
• Define and maintain zSeries hardware components using IBM Hardware Configuration Manager and other tools
• Analyze and determine hardware configurations
• Program Cisco FICON switches and mainframe IOGENs
• Design, install, and maintain mainframe cable infrastructure
• Coordinate and plan all hardware installations and de-installations
• Monitor, track, and diagnose hardware failures
• Provide prompt problem determination and corrective action for hardware failures
• Schedule and supervise hardware maintenance activities
• Coordinate hardware activities with other teams
• Participate in Disaster Recovery planning and testing
• Lead cross-functional teams and drive results on mainframe hardware projects
