Ready to make a real difference in your community? Become part of the Iowa Judicial Branch. The Iowa Judicial Branch is seeking an Information Technology Support Specialist to serve on the Proprietary Application Support Team.

The Proprietary Application Support Team delivers support to the Judicial Branch's employees on how to use various types of proprietary software programs efficiently and effectively in fulfilling business objectives. This position blends hands-on technical support, proprietary application troubleshooting, system maintenance, and end-user support. This includes troubleshooting applications and software for all internal court staff. The Information Technology Support Specialist is responsible for supporting, maintaining, and improving in-house applications. This role focuses on troubleshooting, database interaction, scripting, end-user support, and collaboration with development and business teams to ensure stable, reliable system operations.

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Location: Des Moines, IA with possibility of hybrid-remote after six months.

The pay range for this position is $30.59 to $48.87. This is a contract-covered, FLSA non-exempt position. The starting salary for new State of Iowa Judicial Branch employees is expected to be at the base of the pay range. Adjustments may be made if the successful applicant has relevant experience above minimum qualifications.

Summary

Provide computer and information technology specialized assistance for Iowa Judicial Branch users and business operations.

Examples of Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance new and existing systems, hardware, and software performance.
  • Monitor compliance and requirements. Anticipate web and software needs; audit system behavior and monitor firewalls.
  • Perform software installations, updates, and configurations. Prioritize, schedule, and administer preventative maintenance and updates.
  • Record all issues, actions, and resolutions to help with future troubleshooting.
  • Review diagnostics and assess the functionality and efficiency of systems.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software, and network issues. Test and perform post-resolution follow-ups to ensure problems are resolved.
  • Perform network connectivity, Wi-Fi setup, and printer configurations.
  • Implement security protocols, including user access controls and data backups.
  • Provide customer service and training to users on software applications, security best practices, and system use.
  • Generate sign-ins for new hires during the onboarding process.
  • Other duties as assigned.

This position is covered by a Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) with American Federation of State, County, and Municipal Employees, Iowa Council 61, AFL-CIO (AFSCME).

This is a non-merit position with the Iowa Judicial Branch. Candidates must follow the instructions in the "To Apply" section.

Positions in this class are exempt from the screening and referral requirements of the Iowa Department of Administrative Services - Human Resources Enterprise.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

The incumbent must meet the minimum requirements to qualify for the position.

  • High school diploma (or high school equivalency diploma).
  • Equivalent of three (3) years of full-time experience in computer science or related experience.

Experience may be substituted with related education on the basis that successful completion of thirty (30) semester hours or academic equivalent equals one year of experience.

Additional Qualification Requirements

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Associate's degree in computer science or information technology.
  • Experience working in or transitioning to Agile methodologies.
  • Knowledge and experience with UNIX programming language
  • Knowledge and experience with PL/SQL
  • Experience with shell scripting, including navigating directories, listing files, and opening/editing scripts in QA and production support environments.
