    Industrial Steel Painter & Surface Prep Technician

    Mission: Preserve and enhance the life of steel structures by delivering high-performance surface preparation and coatings—safely, efficiently, and to exact specifications.

    Your Impact

    • Prepare steel surfaces through cleaning, grinding, sanding, and wiping with thinners for optimal adhesion.
    • Apply primers, topcoats, and specialized protective finishes as specified for each project.
    • Operate spray guns, brushes, and rollers to achieve consistent, uniform finishes.
    • Pre-inspect substrates to confirm they are free of rust, contaminants, and defects before coating.
    • Accurately mix paints, primers, and coatings to manufacturer and project specifications.
    • Meet industry standards and project requirements on every application.
    • Follow safety procedures rigorously and use appropriate PPE at all times.
    • Handle, store, and dispose of materials and chemicals in accordance with safety and environmental rules.
    • Keep spray rigs, hoses, brushes, and rollers clean and in excellent working order.
    • Conduct quality checks to confirm correct film build and long-term durability.
    • Collaborate with supervisors and teammates to meet deadlines and quality targets.

    What You Bring

    • High school diploma or GED.
    • Experience painting in structural steel or industrial settings.
    • Knowledge of paints, primers, thinners, and application techniques.
    • Skilled with spray equipment, brushes, and rollers.
    • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality control.
    • Ability to follow safety protocols when working with hazardous materials.
    • Capability to work independently and within a team environment.

    Work Conditions

    • All-weather work: heat, cold, rain, and snow depending on job site and season.
    • PPE required: safety glasses, face shield, gloves; respirator as needed.
    • Repetitive use of arms, hands, and fingers.
    • Standard schedule of 8 hours per day and 40 hours per week; overtime and night shifts as required.
    • Physical mobility to bend, stoop, squat, crawl, climb, kneel, balance, push, pull, and reach overhead.
    • Physical capacity to lift 51 pounds; strong overall stamina.
    • On your feet and moving for most of the shift.
    • Good vision (normal or corrected).
