Description

Industrial Maintenance Mechanic — Precision Manufacturing (Wallingford, CT)

Pay: $27.00–$28.50 per hour, based on experience and skill, with a pay increase after 45 days.

Schedule: Train on 1st shift for 30–60 days, then move to Swing Shift (10:00 am–6:00 pm or 11:00 am–7:00 pm).

A day in the life

You arrive on the swing shift, review the CMMS dashboard, and prioritize preventive maintenance on a CNC cell. You verify lubrication, align a conveyor, and calibrate sensors before tackling a machine fault. A quick root-cause check points to a worn VFD fan. You replace it, test the drive, and log the fix. After a pass through HVAC and utilities, you close the day collaborating with production on a small install, leaving the line running safer and more efficiently than when you started.

What you’ll tackle

  • Execute preventive maintenance: cleaning, lubrication, alignment/adjustment, and calibration.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical issues and basic electrical faults to keep equipment running safely.
  • Test, troubleshoot, and repair machinery; source, order, and install replacement parts.
  • Analyze failures and recommend upgrades to improve availability, capability, and yield.
  • Create service documentation, including technical reports and updated maintenance procedures.
  • Support continuous improvement, new equipment installations, and upgrades.
  • Respond to service requests professionally, completing them promptly and thoroughly.
  • Operate within company policies and applicable state and federal laws.

What you bring

  • 1–5 years in a manufacturing maintenance role preferred.
  • Foundational electrical and mechanical know-how in an industrial setting.
  • Manual machining familiarity (lathe, knee mill, surface grinder) and confident with hand tools.
  • Ability to read blueprints and simple wiring diagrams.
  • Experience with a CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) is a plus.
  • Solid computer literacy and documentation habits.
  • Strength to lift 50 lbs routinely; willing to work overtime when needed.
  • Self-starter who collaborates well and adapts to shifting priorities and deadlines.

Tools and tech you’ll work with

  • VFDs, Allen-Bradley PLCs, servo motors, and conveyor systems.
  • Heavy equipment, hydraulics, HVAC systems, and industrial electrical.
  • CNC setup/changeover and lockout/tagout (LOTO) practices.
  • Equipment installation, wiring, diagnostics, and repair methods.
