Tesla s Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) team is looking for an Industrial Hygienist to support Gigafactory Nevada - the production hub for Tesla s battery cells, drive units and energy storage products. This role is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and controlling occupational health hazards across a complex, high-throughput manufacturing environment.
You will serve as the subject matter expert for industrial hygiene at the Nevada campus, partnering closely with operations, engineering and EHS leadership to build and sustain a proactive occupational health program that protects our workforce and supports Tesla s mission.
- Lead and manage the industrial hygiene program for Gigafactory Nevada, including exposure assessment, hazard identification and risk prioritization across manufacturing, maintenance and support operations
- Design and execute qualitative and quantitative exposure monitoring programs for chemical, physical and biological agents; interpret results against applicable OELs (OSHA PELs, ACGIH TLVs, EPA NCELs and Nevada OSHA limits)
- Evaluate and recommend engineering controls, administrative controls and PPE in compliance with the hierarchy of controls
- Manage core IH compliance programs including respiratory protection, hearing conservation and chemical management
- Partner with engineering and operations teams during new process introductions and facility modifications to proactively identify and mitigate IH hazards
- Develop and deliver IH-related training programs (e.g., HazCom/GHS, respiratory protection, heat illness prevention); manage IH data, sampling records and technical reporting to support incident investigations and corrective actions
- Serve as a resource and mentor to IH Technicians, junior Industrial Hygienists and EHS generalists on the Nevada campus
- Degree in Industrial Hygiene, Occupational Health & Safety, Environmental Science, Chemistry or related field, or equivalent experience
- Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) credential preferred, or active candidacy with CIH achieved within 12 months of hire
- 3-5 years of progressive industrial hygiene experience, preferably in large-scale manufacturing, chemical processing or battery/energy technology environments
- Strong working knowledge of OSHA standards (29 CFR 1910), Nevada OSHA regulations, ACGIH TLVs and NIOSH guidelines
- Demonstrated experience with exposure assessment methodologies, respiratory protection, hearing conservation and chemical hygiene programs
- Proficiency with IH data management tools and EHS management systems (e.g., MyEHS, Cority or equivalent)
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical findings into actionable recommendations; strong project management skills in fast-paced environments
