Industrial Equipment Field Service Specialist

Picture this: It’s 7:30 AM at our Indianapolis facility. You grab a coffee, review the day’s service tickets, pull parts from inventory, and walk the floor with engineering to clarify a commissioning checklist. By mid-morning, you’re validating wiring against schematics and confirming torque specs on a subassembly. It’s an 8-hour day on site, mostly daytime hours, with a clean handoff and a crisp service report before you head out.

Next week, you’re on the road. You fly out Sunday evening with a per diem in place, ready for a 10-hour day Monday at a customer’s plant. You power up a system you helped install, step through commissioning, and troubleshoot an unexpected sensor fault. You collaborate with their maintenance team, follow site safety, and document everything. The schedule flexes—1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift depending on the project—and an occasional weekend might be the key to getting a customer back online. Larger assignments can run up to six weeks; most trips average about a week. Once you’re fully trained, travel can reach 80% of your time, offering variety, customer interaction, and strong earning potential.

What You’ll Tackle

• Travel to customer facilities to install, start up, commission, service, and support equipment
• Diagnose and troubleshoot mechanical and electrical issues using prints, schematics, manuals, and service docs
• Perform repairs, adjustments, and preventative maintenance; test systems to verify performance
• Respond to breakdowns, identify root causes, and implement practical, lasting fixes
• Communicate professionally with customers about equipment condition, work performed, and next steps
• Complete clear service reports and coordinate with engineering, manufacturing, and service teams
• Adhere to customer- and site-specific safety procedures and represent our client professionally on site

Schedule & Travel Rhythm

When at the Indianapolis facility

• 8-hour working day
• Typical start between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM
• Primarily daytime hours

When on customer sites

• Typically 10-hour working days; hours vary by project
• Work may occur on 1st, 2nd, or 3rd shift
• Occasional weekend work
• Average travel assignment ~ one week; some projects up to six weeks
• Up to 80% travel post-training
• Per diem provided while traveling

What You Bring

• Hands-on mechanical and/or electrical aptitude with a passion for troubleshooting
• Comfort working independently at customer sites and managing longer field assignments
• Flexibility with shifts and hours while traveling; dependability and clear communication
• Interest in growing technical skills through real-world field experience

Previous experience in Field Service, Industrial Maintenance, Machine Building, Equipment Installation, Commissioning, Mechanical Maintenance, Electrical Maintenance, or Manufacturing Equipment is highly beneficial.

Pay & Overtime

• $35.00 – $40.00 per hour, DOE
• 1.5x overtime pay
• Double-time pay on Sundays
• Per diem for qualifying travel
• Significant earning potential for techs who embrace travel and OT

Paid Vacation
