Tesla is currently seeking a motivated Industrial Engineer to design the outbound material flow for Global Factory Design projects for Vehicle Bot and Energy Products.

This role will develop end-to-end design of outbound finished product material flow from initial concept design through the handoff of a fully detailed plan to the Operations team. The successful candidate will develop comprehensive process flows for finished product exit from production through end-of-line storage and final dispatch operations. This includes defining post-production routing processes and staging areas based on customer location delivery requirements and shipping modes while ensuring seamless integration between production exit points and outbound logistics operations.

It is critical for a successful applicant to solve problems using first principles analysis and exercise aggressive design optimization. This position is based in Austin, TX.

The team is responsible for developing a factory design which supports seamless integration between production material flow construction and facilities teams. Innovation is expected. Through a detailed understanding of the high-level factory objectives and extensive collaboration with the internal and external teams designing individual factory components, this team ensures that the factory design as a whole achieves all of Teslas objectives.

Responsibilities:

  • Design innovative material flow strategies for a wide variety of finished goods and raw materials.
  • Develop and maintain discrete event simulation (DES) models for outbound logistics processes, including vehicle exit from production line through end-of-line operations, to identify inefficiencies and recommend process improvements.
  • Conduct scenario analysis and what-if studies to evaluate different outbound process configurations and shipping strategies.
  • Improve design models to aid with predicting material handling, labor, warehouse space, and material handling equipment.
  • Partner with manufacturing, logistics, supply chain, and program teams to understand process requirements and constraints.
  • Challenge the assumptions behind manufacturing designs and base recommendations of design on a first principles approach.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Factory Design layout teams to design detailed material flow layouts.
  • Develop innovative cost-effective solutions in automated and manual solutions.
  • Design conceptual layouts to aid with analysis.

Requirements:

  • 2 years of industrial manufacturing or mechanical engineering experience with emphasis on material flow, supply chain, process improvement.
  • Internship experience will be considered.
  • Degree in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, and/or equivalent experience.
  • Demonstrated experience with FlexSim or AnyLogic for simulation modeling and optimization.
  • Programming skills in Python, R, or similar languages for data manipulation and analysis.
  • Experience with supply chain network design.
  • Experience with layouts in AutoCAD.
