    Industrial Electrician — Prototype Tooling & Assembly

    Join a large Tier One automotive supplier in Auburn Hills as a direct-hire Industrial Electrician. You’ll help bring new machines and tooling to life—wiring, soldering, testing, calibrating, repairing, and documenting every step so they’re ready for assembly operations.

    A day in the build shop

    Morning kickoffs turn schematics into action. You’ll gather specifications, set up your bench with hand tools, drills, saws, and test gear, then wire and assemble hardware and printed circuit boards. Through the day, you’ll debug equipment on the floor, troubleshoot down to the component, capture test data, and keep the Shop Manager and stakeholders updated on progress.

    What you’ll do

    • Interpret and execute technical process specs, procedures, and standards.
    • Fabricate developmental, prototype, and critical electronic hardware.
    • Build, field-wire, and debug tooling and equipment.
    • Assemble and test PCBs, hardware assemblies, devices, and systems per drawings and component specs.
    • Troubleshoot assemblies and systems; make checks and modifications to resolve issues.
    • Record test data; create sketches, schematics, and graphical test results.
    • Maintain a safe, orderly work area, following safety and housekeeping procedures/regulations.
    • Suggest and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to boost productivity and process efficiency.
    • Provide detailed written input for design reviews, proposals, specifications, work standards, and business processes.
    • Complete forms, build documents, and reports on time in alignment with the quality management system.
    • Interface with customers and vendors when needed.
    • Communicate project status to the Shop Manager.
    • Help maintain inventory levels for components, supplies, and materials in the build shop.
    • Perform other duties as assigned.

    Education & experience

    • Associate’s degree in Electrical/Electronic Technology or related field, or equivalent experience.
    • 3+ years working with electrical/electronic systems and circuits: testing, troubleshooting, soldering, wiring, prototype assembly, and data recording; automotive experience preferred.
    • Preferred certifications: IPC J-STD-001 and IPC-A-610.

    Skills you bring

    • Solid understanding of electronic assembly standards and ESD practices/procedures.
    • Aptitude to learn complex SMT assembly equipment.
    • Ability to read complex schematics/assembly drawings and run detailed test procedures.
    • High attention to technical detail with strong knowledge of digital, analog, power, RF, and FPGA electronics.
    • Hands-on test and troubleshooting to the component level.
    • Competent with DMMs, oscilloscopes, thermocouples, strain gauges, signal generators/analyzers, programmable power supplies, etc.
    • Proficient with common hand and power tools (including drills and saws).
    • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and communication skills.
    • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines.
    • Basic Microsoft Windows/Word/Excel proficiency.
    • Use of PPE and adherence to safety guidelines; organized, clean work habits.
