    STERIS advances global health by delivering innovative products and services for healthcare and life sciences. As an Industrial Coatings Application Technician, you’ll transform raw components into durable, compliant, and visually flawless parts using powder and wet paint processes.

    What a typical day looks like

    When you arrive for your 6:00am – 4:30pm, Monday–Thursday shift, you review travellers and blueprints to understand the day’s priorities. You set up manual spray equipment or bring our automated paint system online, dialing in controller programs and documenting parameters. As parts move through the booth, you measure paint thickness, verify finish quality against Engineering requirements, and log part counts and elapsed time in the Shop Floor Control System. Throughout the day, you track paint inventory and operating data, keep the booth and surrounding area audit‑ready using 5S, wear your PPE, and immediately escalate any discrepancy to your supervisor. You collaborate with teammates, help train other operators, and take on special projects as assigned.

    Core responsibilities

    • Operate manual paint equipment and/or an Automated Paint System; record controller settings and maintain daily operating records.
    • Read and interpret travellers, blueprints, and related production documents.
    • Record part counts and elapsed times in the Shop Floor Control System.
    • Validate finish quality by checking paint thickness and visually inspecting parts to Engineering standards.
    • Follow all safety rules and wear required PPE at all times.
    • Report problems, discrepancies, or irregularities to your supervisor immediately.
    • Maintain a clean, orderly workspace using 5S principles; support continuous improvement.
    • Complete projects, assignments, and duties as directed.

    Skills and abilities

    Preferred knowledge

    • Lean tools: 5S, Kanban Inventory, Visual Management, Waste Elimination, Root Cause Problem Solving.
    • Computer skills: Microsoft Office, Shop Floor Control, and AS400.
    • Two years of prior paint experience.

    Baseline proficiencies

    • High School diploma or GED.
    • Comfort using grinders and sanders.
    • Proficiency in painting techniques.
