    Description

Shape the systems that power and connect the world

At Prysmian, a global frontrunner in cable solutions for energy and telecommunications, we build the infrastructure that keeps cities lit and data flowing. Our portfolio spans underground and submarine transmission systems, medium and low voltage products for construction and infrastructure, and a full suite of optical fiber, copper, and connectivity for voice, video, and data. With a workforce of 30,000 colleagues across more than 50 countries, your work will ripple across industries and continents.

    The role

As the Controls Engineer, you own the PLC and computer software that drives our production equipment. Your week blends hands-on troubleshooting with strategic project work, collaborating with maintenance, engineering, and external partners to maximize uptime and performance on wire and cable manufacturing assets.

    A day in the life

    • Walk the line with maintenance, dig into PLC logic, and verify backups before the shift ramps up.
    • Break down complex electrical schematics to the component level to isolate root causes and return machines to service.
    • Refine and debug control logic for machine control, implement design updates, and test improvements on AC and DC drive systems.
    • Coordinate vendors and outside engineering/contractors for installations, upgrades, and outsourced repairs of critical electronic components.
    • Advance projects from concept through startup, managing costs, safety, procurement, and approvals along the way.
    • Support the Engineering & Maintenance Manager with inputs for the annual capital and expense budget.
    • Harden our plant-floor network communications, and make sure program archives and sufficient backup copies are secured.

    What you will tackle

    • Build deep process and equipment expertise in wire and cable operations.
    • Provide technical guidance to maintenance for electrical/electronic systems.
    • Use programming terminals to diagnose PLC failures and identify improvement opportunities.
    • Direct electricians in troubleshooting, repair, and programming of AC/DC drive systems.
    • Leverage electrical test instruments and computer-based diagnostics to resolve issues quickly.
    • Manage external electrical engineering, construction, and consulting resources.
    • Oversee outsourced repair activities for high-value electronic components.
    • Develop, modify, and debug machine control logic across PLC/HMI and related software.

    Qualifications

    • Bachelor’s in Electrical or Electrical/Electronics Engineering; an Associate degree in Electrical/Electronics is also considered.
    • 5+ years in manufacturing; direct wire and cable experience is strongly preferred.
    • Advanced PC skills including PLC programming and CAD; Wonderware experience is a plus.

    You should be proficient in

    • PLC programming
    • AC/DC and drive systems
    • Control logic and machine control
    • Wire and cable manufacturing processes
    • Wonderware (advantageous)
    • CAD
