Interim Indirect Tax Consultant
A global manufacturing company in West Houston is seeking an experienced Interim Indirect Tax Consultant to provide hands-on support during a period of organizational transition.
This is a part-time consulting assignment. All scheduled work will be performed on-site.
The company is moving toward an outsourced tax model and needs a practical tax professional who can coordinate with outside providers, work with transactional data, and keep day-to-day indirect tax responsibilities moving. This is an execution-focused role for someone comfortable handling a varied mix of responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
Pull reports and supporting data from SAP and OneSource Indirect Tax
Reconcile sales tax data and provide completed information to the outside service provider responsible for preparing and filing returns
Coordinate sales tax reporting and payment activities
Reconcile tax accounts and propose necessary cleanup entries
Manage property tax data requests, payments, reconciliations, and accruals
Prepare Canada VAT reporting and coordinate payments
Compile and reconcile data for quarterly federal excise tax reporting
Respond to requests involving exemption certificates, direct pay permits, and other transactional tax matters
Assist with data collection and support for an upcoming Texas sales tax audit
Support tax-related projects and requests resulting from a recent corporate separation and rebranding
Qualifications
Hands-on corporate indirect tax experience
Working knowledge of sales and use tax, property tax, VAT, or federal excise tax
Strong account reconciliation skills and an understanding of debits, credits, accruals, and journal entries
Experience with OneSource highly preferred
The ideal candidate is an indirect tax generalist who enjoys doing the hands-on work required to keep processes running. This person does not need to be an expert in every area but should understand how tax processes work, be comfortable researching unfamiliar matters, and know how to work through transactional data.
