JOB DESCRIPTION

The In-House Counsel is a corporate role responsible for: providing legal advice to the organization related primarily to employment law to include discrimination, harassment, retaliation and wage and hour issues, ERISA, ADA, Title VII, FMLA, FLSA, and labor issues. The position also serves as the ADA Coordinator for Baptist Health Care, focusing on public accommodation requirement for patients and visitors.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Reviews and updates employment related policies, education, and materials.
  • Provides legal advice to the Human Resources Division and organizational leaders on all matters pertaining to employment to include, but not limited to, hiring, separations, wage and hour, leave, accommodations, team member relations, and Just Culture, etc.
  • In conjunction with Human Resources, conducts employment-related investigations.
  • Provides labor-related education and advice to Baptist Health Care leadership.
  • Manages employment related litigation and oversight of outside counsel.
  • Investigates and prepares responses to EEOC and other labor related complaints.
  • Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization's overall mission.
  • Maintains responsibility for department's operational excellence; ensures department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards.
  • Assists in other duties as assigned to support the operational needs of the department and organization.
  • May be required to remain on campus immediately before, during, and after severe weather and/or disasters.


QUALIFICATIONS

  • 5 years' of experience in the legal field, required AND
  • 5 years' experience in employment law, required.
  • 3 years' in-house counsel experience, preferred.
  • Juris Doctorate Law, required.
