Join Our Team as a Communications Compliance Specialist
Located in vibrant Indianapolis, IN, the Indiana Department of Health offers an exciting opportunity for a detail-oriented Communications Compliance Specialist. This is a contract position focused on a six-month accessibility initiative aimed at ensuring our public-facing materials are accessible to all residents.
Job Responsibilities
- Review and assess state health forms, documents, and web content for WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance.
- Collaborate with program areas to revise and redesign materials to meet accessibility requirements.
- Work with web teams to ensure HTML content, PDFs, and interactive elements are accessible.
- Utilize project tracking and accessibility tools to monitor progress and ensure timely completion of deliverables.
- Provide guidance and training to staff on best practices for content creation and publishing.
- Conduct quality assurance reviews to confirm accessibility corrections.
- Prepare documentation and reports summarizing compliance improvements.
- Stay updated with accessibility standards and industry best practices.
Requirements
- 2+ years of experience in technical writing, digital communications, or web content.
- Strong understanding of WCAG 2.1 Level AA compliance.
- Experience with accessibility tools such as WAVE, Axe, or similar.
- Proficiency in creating plain language content.
- Strong writing and editing skills.
Preferences
- Experience with project tracking and progress monitoring.
- Familiarity with content management systems and web publishing workflows.
- Experience in government, public health, or regulated environments.
- Accessibility certification (CPACC or WAS) is a plus.
